Summary: NEW LOOK and a city : an "Exploreading" Experience
Review: Finding a city guide that is original, witty, pedagogical, and funny is NOT impossible. Our cities have changed and so have we, world visitors. Why would we want to travel and discover the world the same old fashioned way. This "Looking Up" series is not only a fascinating "exploreading" experience, it is, so far, the smartest and most exciting appeal to travel and a mark of respect for the humble "explorer" that lies in all of us. Edinburgh is a terrific city. It seems that Jane Peyton is the only one to know or wants to share it !! And travelling doesn't mean leaving anymore. A good British friend of mine rediscovered his hometown thanks to the first book "Looking book in London". He was almost tired of London and I know that "A man who is tired of London is" ... a man who has not yet read "Looking Up in London".
I'm hoping the Peytons will cast their regard onto PARIS for me to re-discover my hometown as well. I'm dying to look up in paris asap!!!

Summary: love love love Looking
Review: From those who have never been to Edinburgh and want a witty first peek to those who are looking for a new way to explore a wellknown destination, this book is a must for the well-informed traveler. And it should be a must for the uninformed tourist since it clearly shows how much more can be "seen" by taking an extra moment to go beyond the usual guidebook itinerary. This book is the perfect way to spend an hour or a day getting a new view of a terrific town. Hint=if you haven't read Jane Peyton's first book (Looking Up London) then do so for all the reasons above. Looking forward to the next book in the Looking Up series -- hopefully, Peyton will soon skip the Atlantic and explore the US

Summary: Don't waste your time
Review: I can't comment on "Looking up in London," which may be very good, but shipping an author 400 miles to write a book regarding a city of which she knows little is not a recipe for success. This is what seems to have happened in "Looking up in Edinburgh." In general the book shows no background or depth of understanding, and seems to be the product of a few weeks reading in the city library. You might learn a thing or two, but only if you don't know much to start with. Try 'Eccentric Edinburgh' or 'The Wee Book of Edinburgh' for far better accounts of some more unusal aspects of the city.
