Rating: 4 stars
Summary: QUIRKY PHOTOGRAPHY, QUIRKY IDEAS...
Review: Nicosia's work remains to be diverse yet striking. Throughout the book the reader can see the versatility and changes the photographer has made to his work. His early work depicts images of distress (hurricanes, violence) in almost a cartoon-like manner, and initially there is a very 80s look to this work. Nicosia attempts an array of subject matter, and it is the fact that some work is suggestive that insists on its very emphasis and power. Themes like sex and paedophilia are hinted at, yet not blatantly suggested. Context and scenario are major concepts for Nicosia, and the video stills towards the end of the novel are very much reminiscent of American Beauty. A very good photographer, and a very good photography book.
