Review: Bellosi's review of Cimabue's works is both informative and intresting. He clearly identifies the arguments surrounding many of the attribution problems associated with Cimabue's work as well as providing a detailed and accurate analysis of both the iconographical and narrative content of Cimabue's various paintings. At no time does Bellosi's analysis seem trivial and it is indeed supplemented by outstanding illustrations. Highly academic and thoroughly researched this book is a must for anyone interested in early Italian painting, regardless of their prior knowledge.
