Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Review: I'm not much of one for coffee table photo books. This book, though, blew me away.
Heaven and Earth presents images we can't see with our naked eyes, moving from the ultra-small (the first photo traces the paths of subatomic particles) to the cosmically large (the closing photos are images of entire galaxies). This easily could have turned into an aseptic catalogue of things great and small, much like a high school science book. With a keen eye for color and composition, though, the authors instead assembled an vibrant collection of captivating images that are visually stunning in their own right but made even more intriguing when viewed in the context of the work as a whole. The universe truly is a marvel of complexity and this work captures that complexity better than any I've ever seen.
Caveat: I'm discussing the hardcover; I haven't seen the paperback, so I can't vouch for its quality.
Rating: Summary: Out Of This World Review: Received this book for Christmas, and the pictures are spectacular! This book is definitely a keeper. However, the paperback version has a problem with it's binding. My copy, the pages are already falling out ... but because this book is so great, I will be replacing it with the hard cover version.
