Review: La Pittura Italiana is a beautifully presented hard cover volume of Italian paintings ranging from 1260 [pre-Giotto]classical, neo-classical to late 1980's modernism art. The book is a summary of the Italian masters with excellent photographic prints capturing the essence of being there looking at the paintings. It's best to buy this book in Italy and use it as a guide to find the galleries, chapels, and cathedrals where the paintings now reside. The book is not a museum or art history memorandum and makes no attempt to be. Its a master in its own right. Apart from above, it is also a useful reference book for new-comers to the wonders of Italian art.
