Rating: Summary: David Smith : Two into Three Dimensions Review: I ordered this book as a gift for a metal sculpture friend of mine, who figuratively puts David Smith on a pedestal when it comes to sculpture. Owning a vast number of art/art history books myself, I was very disappointed in the quality of the photographs that accompany the text. The book has a nice layout, and the quality of the photography of the plates is wonderful. The B/W photographs feel as if they were just lifted from an earlier edition. It's a poor way to start out the book. One might never get to the color plates in the back, after viewing the photography in the front of the book, and placing it back on the shelf. If the sculptures could have been re-photographed with the same care as was taken with the plates, it would have enhanced the book dramatically.
