Summary: There are betters out this. This book teaches bad habits.
Review: A book of very, very basic scripts that assumes way too much and teaches you bad habits for hypnosis. (It uses the beach metaphor way too much--what if the subject had a drowning experience?!?) The author also assumes: 1) the client will accept the standardized reality of the script and thus no one is unique, 2) you, as a hypnotist, know what to prescribe to the client (diet, exercise, etc.), and 3) the hypnotist does all the work and accepts 100% responsibility. And, the book does a poor job at explaining trance and hypnosis, even as a simple introduction. There are better books out there that teaches hypnosis. Look for a book by Hunter or, even better but a little more complex, Gilligan.

Summary: A Great Starter Book
Review: As the title indicates, this is a great way to get started in self hypnosis. The author writes with great knowledge of the subject and is interested in using hypnosis for the good of his reader. I found it leaving me with a desire to learn more about hypnosis. The only downfall with this book is that it seems to give the reader the routines instead of teaching how to make routines for yourself. Still, I have read it more than once and would highly recommend it to any one who is interested in getting started in self hypnosis. A GREAT book for beginners.

Summary: An excellent book for anyone interested in hypnosis.
Review: Hypnosis for Beginners is an excellent book for anyone wishing to learn more about self-hypnosis and the hypnosis of others. It includes complete scripts on regression, self-regression, self-hypnotism, and a full six session script for weight loss, teaching you routines for induction and deep relaxation that can be used for any purpose you desire. Hewitt breaks every session into routines which can be modified to meet your specific needs. The author thoroughly explains the state of hypnosis, many useful applications of it, and includes a full chapter of suggestions you can use to broaden your mind and improve yourself in many ways, all worded in an easy-to-read fashion. I have read this book several times and have found it extremely useful. Anyone interested in hypnosis, especially those who wish to begin using it to enhance the lives of themselves and others, should consider this book a must.

Summary: Excellent: All there is to say.
Review: I am an 11-year-old from somewhere in the United States. I'm too lazy to get a tape recorder and stuff, so I skipped self-hypnosis until I can make my kid-sitter (not baby, mind you!) hypnotize me. Here's my story (It'll be long): I have had an interest in hypnosis from about as soon as I learned what it was. I immediately got a very small book from my library explaining some of the myths and other stuff about hypnosis, including myths and why some people are afraid to be hpnotized. Since then, I had never really gotten another book because I assumed hypnosis was hard and should be left to trained adults (professional hypnotists). Besides, when you're eleven or younger, all of that self-improvement stuff sounds really boring. I'm not overweight, I'm not unhealthy, I obviously don't smoke, what was there for me? I still looked up hypnosis on the Internet, though, trying to find a quick-and-easy method to do it that was also free. I suppose it was about time I realized the world wasn't like that. Finally, I couldn't take it any more, so when I was at my library, I looked up "hypnosis," found a book that looked simple and also cool, and using the Dewey Decimal System (it's really quite easy once you get used to it), I found the book, borrowed it, and promptly began reading as soon as I was back in the car. It revealed some more myths and stuff, and I had finally found what I had been looking for all along: A quick, easy, completely effortless way to hypnotize yourself and others. I wanted to hypnotize myself initially, but twhen I discovered I needed a tape player or else I had to memorize the stuff, I decided my first test subject would be my sister (eight years old). The problem was, she didn't want to be hypnotized and didn't really see the point. She was afraid even after I read her the myths and made sure she thoroughly knew that hypnosis was completely safe and I couldn't make her do anything she didn't want to or get her "stuck" in hypnosis. She also wouldn't relax, even after I had proved it was safe by using my willing kid-sitter as a test subject. She was more concerned with what I was going to do and making it look good then actually cooperating. The secret to hypnosis is relaxation, and if you don't relax and let go, hypnosis won't do you a **** thing. So I let her go and used my sitter as my primary subject. Before I had really hypnotized her well, I tried it on some of my friends at school, but the atmosphere was different and noisy, and although I managed to put them into a very, very light state of hypnosis, my suggestions wouldn't work and I would need more time and a better atmosphere to do the job well. So I stuck with my sitter, hypnotizing her very well the second time (the first time was just really to get used to it, it didn't work, but it prepared her and helped her with more serious sessions). I can prove this point with this: One of the suggestions, you will feel the best you've ever felt in your life when I wake you up, worked; when prompted, she informed me that an example of a time when she felt as good was her birthday. Also, I was counting down from twenty to take her out of hypnosis, and she said that the first number she heard was "seven." That would prove I had her very deep, as I was speaking plenty loud enough for her to hear. The third time was even better; afterwards she had to ask what number I was counting down from (50, if you'll believe it), because the first number she heard was 20. Even though I told you the secret was relaxation, I still recommend this book. It goes into more detail and it's really an excellent book. It helped me hypnotize my first subject, which gave me more confidence in myself and how easy it was, and also proved those grown-ups wrong: You don't have to work hard to get what you want. I figured that it wouldn't do the author of the book or Amazon.com any harm if I reviewed this book and possibly helped them make money. After you read the book, you'll see why it was hard for me to describe it and also how wonderful and EASY the techniques are.

The time of my review is one day after the third session, with one day between each session, and a few weeks, I guess, since I got the book out. I finished the book but continue to review the information to etch it into my mind and get me more used to it so I can return the book to the library.

Thanks, Mr. Hewitt!

Summary: This book is terrible!
Review: I bought this book as an introduction to hypnosis. It was easy to read yet well written. Alas, despite the writing talent possed by the author, it did not in any way shape or form serve its perpose. I was not expecting to be able to hypnotise someone having read just one book but I tried these techniques time and again to no avail. I then bought "Fun with hypnosis" and can now hypnotise people at will. Since reading it I have a 100% track record on over 50 people. The book in question though does keep me warm in the winter months though when I burn it page by page.

Summary: An excellent, practical guide to hypnosis.
Review: I found this book easy to read, and easier to follow. It was wonderful to be able to put the techniques into practice as I learned them. If you are looking for a hands on guide to hypnosis, this is the book. It not only teaches you what hypnosis is, but exactly how to apply it to help others, and better yourself. For the first time in my life, I was relaxed in the dentist's chair.

Summary: Very good book overall......
Review: I found this book to be a pretty good starting point for someone who wants to learn and use hypnosis to help themselves and others. There is detailed, yet simple examples of actual hypnosis strategies that if followed step by step can and will get results. The only disappointment I found in the book was the small, useless chapter on stage hypnosis. If you are thinking of buying this book for help with that particualr genre, save your money...Mr. Hewitt is strongly against stage hypnosis. Even though I can see his point on why, I was still disappointed. Willy...why put it in the book at all if you aren't really going to talk about it....? Besides that, the book is pretty darn good. 4-stars....

Summary: Very worth it
Review: I found this book to be full of information on hypnosis. He provided information on dealing with numerous issues in ones life and to me it was never boring. I am dyslexic and hate reading but I couldn't stop with this book. The best thing is, It Works. This is definately the book to start with.
