Strongly recommand if you like science fiction.
Rating: Summary: Fair, but slow Review: I had to read this book in class and most of my classmates enjoyed it. I, however, did not. It was slow and predictable, contained precious few original ideas, the battle room was a good one, but the reading was dry. The book is nothing spactacular, don't bother with this one.-m-
Rating: Summary: Enders Game Review By K. Jenkins Review: I liked and disliked this book by Orson Scott Card. I liked the fact that the characters were so very different in every aspect. There was a lot of love and hate in this book. There was a sense of family love to and extent. It was as interesting portrayal of a war against aliens. The humans were preparing themselves for a war at a very young age, and I found that to be strange to read. I disliked the book because it was quite perdictable, many of the events that occured in this book I found hard to beleive would happen in the every day life of a human. I guess thats why this is a sci-fi book. I don't personally condone or enjoy reading about war so I was a little bias about all of the war games. Overall the book was pretty good, but not the type of book I usually read, but would reccommend to my little sister who does enjoy a good science-fiction novel. The time I spent reading this book was a valuable one to me because it was my first time actually reading a sci-fi book so I'm glad to have this one be my first. Due to the popularity of this book I was able to receive additional feedback from one of my co-workers, he enjoyed it so much he read the entire series.
Rating: Summary: I have never thought that it is this good! Review: "Ender's Game" is my first Science-Fiction book. Before I read Ender's Game, I'd always say that I hate Science fiction. I have always thought that Sci-fic books are only going to talk about stars, ships, and all of the other unrealistic things. Thing changed now; however. I love this book. It is an amazing sci-fic book!! I think that this book contains so many interesting images, with all of fighting on the battle ship. While I read,I can almost visualized what is happening in the battleroom. It seems very realistic. Not just that, but I feel that this book contains a strong plot. I think that this book is not only about fighting buggers, but it has a good, and interesting story to it. It is a story of a young kid who must struggle through life, and all of the pressure from "the game". It is about an intelligent kid who always have to find a way to fight his own battle. I think that this story has a great meaning. I think that this book could be read by any age. Eventhough that all of the charcters in the book are mostly children, it doesn't mean "children only". In my view, the book could be read by anyone because it is simply good. I, myself could not believe that I like this sci-fic book. It is true that I like it very much after I read it. I suggest to anyone who is "not a fan of sci-fic" would try this book. It might be the first experience, but it could be a good one.^_^.
Rating: Summary: Only if you are interested... Review: Maybe it's because I am not as interested in science fiction as the ones who told me about this book. I was dissappointed. But then again I never liked science fiction. To me, Ender's Game was any typical science fition. The good guys versus the bad guys. Of course the bad guys were gruesome creatures, in this case Buggers. In retrospect, this was a good story due to the superior last two chapters. The first thirteen chapters barely kept my interest. Through out those chapters, I found it very hard to relate to a bunch of seven and eight-year-olds who had the responsibility and intellect of grown men. I was also disturbed by what almost seemed like a deep seeded sexual interest between Ender and his sister. In the end, I almost didn't want to enjoy the last seventy pages because by that time I had so much resentment for the book, yet it shocked me to read the results. While reading the novel I foresaw its "plot twists" well ahead of their unveilings. This book will mostly appeal to self-perceived child geniuses who will see reflections of themselves in Ender. Readers with fond memories of being gifted children will swallow easily the possibilty of an 8-year old trained soldier. But with me not quite so... Only if you are interested in science fiction like Star Wars, etc. will I encourage it.
Rating: Summary: Reading Requirement for Ender's Game Review: In Orson Scott Card's book Ender's Game, Card uses science fiction and drama to capture the reader's interest. Although a little bit confusing in the beginning of the book, the plot begins to unravel as the reader progresses into the book. There is much action and suspense, as well as description, that I could not put the book down. I normally do not like science fiction; it is a real bore to me. However, I rather enjoyed and was very intrigued by this novel. Although set in outer space, it didn't, matter to me. It sparked my interest even more. The characters seemed so alive to me. It wasn't like they were living in a "normal" fantasy world, where everyone is happy. They lived in a world with chaos which everyone may be able to relate to. The plot was very original and Card kept it more and more interesting as the book progressed. I could imagine the scenes in my head. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. This is one of the five books in my life that I have read from page one to the end without skipping chapters or pages. I felt that if I skipped even one sentence in the book, I would miss out on something important. Card has written an excellent book and deserves the awards that he has received.
Rating: Summary: READ and LEARN Review: Eventhough the story took place in another planet and in another time, the author did a wonderful job in portraying the scenes so we can all relate to. Ender is a character whom we can all learn from. If you are someone who like politic and competition, this is a great book for you. Ender's gave up so much to be best of the best. He learned lot of lessons during the process of becoming the best. We can also learn alot about competition by reading this book. How much a person must give up to be the best? is the question which this book can answer. There are many other lessons we can get from the character, Ender. The best thing about this book is the ways Ender dealt with problems he faced; it did matter what life threw at him, he would always have a solution. How he weighted out the consequences of every situation was just amazing. Well, I don't want to give out too much details about this book because everyone should buy one. Go get yourself this book for Christmas and you will able dealt with your future problems in a more opstimistic way. Excellent BOOK.
Rating: Summary: A Good Science Fiction Book. Review: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card was a fair book to read. It is not one of the best books I have read, but it sure is a good book. The book starts off very excitingly, but gets a little boring pretty soon. The characters are not well defined and the story starts to drag itself right after thefirst few chapters. The interesting part was how the kids were chosen to save the world and how the training takes place in outer space. The kids are chosen to do this job as they tend tolearn faster than adults. Ender being the main character of the story, is also the youngest and the smallest of all the other kids at the battle school. It is very exciting when the smallest kid does everything better than the rest of them. He soon becomes the hero, this is one fact i really liked about the novel. Ender who was the third child, was not having a very good experience dealing with society as the third child so he did not hesitate going to the battle school. It had something i really like, that is video games. The way the battles were designed in the story were very creative of the author. I liked the way the book was written as it was easy to read book. The only part that could have been worked upon more is organizing the characters a little better. The other point i would like to make is that the movie for this book should be good. I've heard that there is a movie and I would like to watch it as it might give me more understanding of the setting and how the characters look. Overall I would say its a good book to read, but not the best book for me. It would make a good book for someone who likes science fiction.
Rating: Summary: ENDER'S GAME Review: Ender's Games I thought that I wouldn't really like this book, because I don't like "Star Warish" stuff. I really thought the reading was easy enought for me to understand and enjoy. It really did put my imagination to work. The characters were very diverse. Some were stronger than other (mentally and physically). Some were selfish. Some were caring and uncaring. And some were just down right hateful--Bonzo. I felt that Ender was too young to be taken from his family for such a long time. But I was very impressed with his intelligence and his ability to endure the challenges placed upon him. When Ender went home (earth) I had hoped that he would be the able to stay. And not have to go back to battle school. I also thought that he had lost his desire to be the best warrior. I felt he had really been used by Colonal Graff. I liked Ender's sister,Valentine. She and Ender seem to have a special brother and sister relationship. She really cared about Ender's well being. I am glad that my professor assigned this book as required reading. I am also glad this is only a science fiction experience. But who know, this may become a reality someday. As the old saying goes--"Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover", well that applies to this book. I recommend it to persons 12 years old and older.
Rating: Summary: Christine's Review Review: I am not a fan of science fiction. I prefer stories that contain realism. When I started reading the novel Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, the idea of sending children to Battle School in space to fight the "buggers" didn't interest me. As I kept reading I became attached to the children in the story. Becoming attached to the characters allowed the story to become more realistic instead of science fiction. Once I was involved in the story I couldn't put the book down. I would be in the middle of the chapter and I would have to run an errant and the whole time I would be thinking about the novel. I wonder if Ender is going to beat the Salamander Army in their battle today? I was very concerned about the relationships between the characters. The relationship with the parents and siblings of Ender, the other children in Battle School and their reacted to achievements interested me. In Battle School, Ender had to always prove himself because he is so young. I could relate this to my own life. The end of the story came as a surprise. The whole time Ender thought he was playing a game at Command School he was really fighting the buggers as the Third Invasion. I could only imagine what he must have felt when he found out he found out he killed the entire species of buggers. I'm sure it was a great reward for him to live in the new colony as the governor and not have to fight anymore. It was weird to read about how the "End of the World" was on the bugger's planet. I don't know if I would have done what Ender did when he found the baby queen larva. I think my first instinct would have been to crush it so there would never be a war again but Ender has a better understanding of the proper way to handle the situation. I would recommend this book to others.
