Summary: Exceptional Book
Review: "Gideon" seemed to start out a little slow but I feel that was because, in the beginning you do not know who the specific characters are. It is not until later in the book as the story unfolds that you find out about them. The book was so interesting and suspenseful that I couldn't stop reading. When I was finished I went back to the beginning to pull the whole book together. I felt that it was written very well. It is a different form of writing than I am used to but I enjoyed it immensely! "Gideon" is one of those "must read" books. I have been recommending to all my friends.

This is the first time I have read anything by the two authors that wrote "Gideon" and I hope that they are presently working on another one.

Summary: Pelican Brief Revisited
Review: Very similar to the "chase" book Pelican Brief written by John Grisham. Exciting to read, moves fast and introduces us to several interesting characters. The authors often create situations that are very possible and a bit eerie. It does become obvious that the book was written by someone (in this case someones)who have had plenty of experience in Hollywood. A lot of the familiar Hollywood chords are struck to give the appearance of a formula book looking for a script writer. I recommend the book for a good weekend read or to fill the time on a long flight.

Summary: What Was the Point?
Review: I decided to purchase this book while waiting in the airport . Ten days later I am still asking myself "Why?" I read it from cover to cover and waded through the gore and sexual encounters only to wonder "What was the point?" If you enjoy violence and meaningless sex, then this book may be for you. However, if you lean towards taut and well written plots that make sense then you probably will want to pass. There are plot holes big enough to drive a truck through. Namely, why did the first two individuals have to die? The "heavy" that was brought in to perform the job did not have to send a message to the family. They were quite aware of the danger and were keeping their mouths shut. And speaking of the "heavy" that did the job, do you really believe that a person could be black-mailed to do this kind of work because of sexual oreintation? Please! Especially when you consider who was black-mailing the individual. Next, why did the next individual have to be bludgeoned? A loyal subject who did not threaten to reveal the mystery does not make sense. One minute this indiviual is orchestrating the "Gideon" project the next their head is caved in. Why! You won't find out from reading the book. Next, why did the project suddenly stop and the killing spree begin? For ratings? Please! Another disposable character is then taken to an apartment and shot in the face and murdered. Have you ever heard of identification by means of fingerprints(with an "i")? I'm sorry, that was for the "frame-up" sub-plot. Silly me. Seems the protagonists were nearly perfect in their anticipation of Carl Granville's actions and yet they still could not stop him from causing their their insidious plot to un-ravel. So Carl and Amanda stumble through the deep South trying to find out who Gideon is. The have an idea who this information is tied to but seemingly cannot recognize that the mother of the main character wrote a book about her experiences that would have led them right to where they needed to go. But of course, that would have kept them from meeting the Elvis Presley fans and having their lives snuffed out by the Closer. The plot problems go on and on but needless to say the book (mercifully) does come to an end and you do discover the identity of Gideon. Overall a tremendous disappointment.

P.S. The worker was incinerated by a space launch. Read comment from LLA at the bottom of page 275. Why this person had to die for the plot is beyond me.

Summary: A good beach book
Review: Another reviewer commented that the theme of "Gideon" is reminiscent of 3 Days of the Condor, which I think is an apt description. In "3 Days...", Robert Redford was pursued by unknown powers. He failed to understand why since he was only a "Reader" for the CIA and not a field agent. In Gideon, the chief character was hired to write a fictionalized account of an unknown person's life and is being pursued and set up for what he knows and for what he can presumably disclose.

This is an easy read that sails along and keeps the reader guessing until almost the end of the book. The main characters are always on the move. The plot and characters are not so complicated that the reader loses track of who's who. Although it is not great literature, it's a fun story that keeps the reader's interest throughout.

Summary: An Engrossing Read...
Review: It took a few minutes for me to get into this book, but after that, I was hooked until the end. If you're looking for a book with a story, a book with a little romance, a book with a lot of action, and you don't mind some murder and mayhem, then this is the book for you.

The storyline was good. As I read, I tried to figure out what was going on along with the main character. I was just as confused as he was until almost at the end. The romance was just right. I don't care for books where the characters claim to be in love a day or two after meeting, and thankfully, none of that was happening here. There was romance, but it was more realistic and nicely paced. And speaking of pace, the book moved along at a nice little clip. There was always something going on, and that something was usually pretty darned interesting.

The scenes, though not described in any great detail, were described well enough to give you a sense of the characters' surroundings. The book ranked a "4" only because I thought the very end of the book was a little drawn out and preachy. Not bad, but not necessary in my opinion. In sum, I found this to be an engrossing and enjoyable read and one that I would recommend.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This book started off kind of slow for me. I don't like it when the writer leaves you in the dark as to what's going on. That's what happens in the first chapter. Characters are discribed, yet no names are given and no inkling of who or what they are about. By the second chapter though, I couldn't put this book down.

A previous reviewer mentioned "Three Days of the Condor" and that about sums up the plot. A down-on-his-luck writer is hired to 'ghost' write a novel for a major publishing company. The book is supposed to be earth shattering, and so Carl Granville takes on the job. Then the bizarreness begins with the arrival of a courier. Not long after, people wind up dead and Carl is on the run accused of the killings.

The plot twists are excellent. The character development was excellent. The story itself...you know, excellent. Can't recommend this book more!

Summary: A spunky thrillride transcending time around you.
Review: You know a book a great when you pick it up, start reading...then sorta say to yourself "I think I'll get a drink" only to discover you've been reading for six hours straight. No pottie breaks...no smoking...no beverages! It's been a long time ( The Stand ) since reading a book I couldn't put down. To the authors...PLEASE PUBLISH MORE!!!! QUICK!!!

Summary: A Chilling Page Turner
Review: I loved this book! Normally, I would give something as entertaining as this 5 stars...but some of the violence is sickening. There is one part toward the beginning involving a crime against a mother and child...it was deeply sickening. In any case, you will stay up late to finish this one...and find out who or what Gideon is.

Summary: IF A BOOK CAN HAVE A SPLIT PERSONALITY, THIS ONE DOES
Review: This book amazed me. I have never seen such masterful story telling and such pure junk combined under one cover.

The plot and its execution was wonderful. I was held on the edge right to the unexpected ending. What bothered me, and detracted from the book, was the change in writing. A few chapters of excellence, then without warning, a few chapters that almost caused me to give up my pursuit of the ending. The worst were the phony and stilted computer exchanges, then the editorials and speeches.

Overall, the book is worth reading. The undefined and mystery laden beginning does not unfold into a definite plot until the middle of the book, but it catches and holds the reader non-stop. The slender thread that holds it together starts to thicken and by the time you think you've got things straight... it skillfully yanks you in another direction.

This is a novel that is all too believable in terms of abuse of power, and it peeks into corners that most of us would prefer to overlook. Were it not for the unfortunate sections of junk writing this book would deserve five stars. Well worth the read however, if you can over look those parts that just do not fit.
