Rating: Summary: A masterpiece! Review: I bought the book by chance, knowing little about Lindbergh. Reading it, I was moved as well as frustrated by this very complex, very unique, and very misunderstood man. He possessed the courage and humility so lacking in today's public figures yet he also failed miserably at fulfilling the most basic obligations to his family. I was certainly sympathetic toward Anne and the children.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, Informative, and Enlightning Review: As a recent aviator myself, I have always been interested in Lindbergh's famous flight. However I was totaly unaware of all of his other accomplishments, as outlined in this book. It was a great inspiration for me and want to read the books CAL has written and learn more about this great man and his family. Also interesting was the complex Lindbergh family relationships, and the contributions of the other Linbergh family members. I was amazed by the indepth research that went into this book.
Rating: Summary: Good Bio; Good history of his times also. Review: A good read. A balanced account of his life and his attitudes. Enjoyed reading of his life leading up to his historic flight and also to WWII.
Rating: Summary: Well documented and thoroughly enjoyable. Review: Berg's Lindbergh is the best of the genre. Well documented, like a doctoral disertation, it does not lose the realism one expects in an otherwise scholarly work. I felt like I was next to him in the cockpit of the Spirit. The great photos of the aviator in Paris are an added plus. A must read for the Lindbergh afficionado.
Rating: Summary: Expectations not really fulfilled Review: Having written a good deal on Anne Morrow Lindbergh's life and writing, I enjoyed it as vacation reading matter but found little new material in Scott Berg's biography of Charles Lindbergh. Knowing that access to family papers was unlimited, I expected a great deal more than previous biographers of one or both Lindberghs had uncovered. Much more interesting to me were interviews I had with their daughter Anne before her death and the book Reeve, the younger daughter, has written about her parents. Both Lindberghs continue to fascinate, but the real story lies, I am confident, in a thorough treatment of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's writings, both published and private. Dr Ramona S. Fletcher
Rating: Summary: Excellent, best bio I've read! Review: Berg not only tells you what Lindbergh did, how he did it, and the facts of his life, but moreover, he let's you really get to know the man, how he thought, what motivated him, his strengths, weaknesses, and much more. An absolutely outstanding job by Berg!!!
Rating: Summary: "Lindbergh" a facinating read about a man worth knowing Review: This is a well done biography about a life full of intrigue, adulation and tragedy. Expect to enjoy Berg's easy to read work, but don't be surprised if you become engrossed in the history of this facinating time prior to and just after WWII. I highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: Powerful and exciting! Review: I received the book as a gift and just recently had a chance to read it. I picked the book up on Friday (thinking I would read a little over the next few weeks) but didn't put it down again until I finished it on Sunday. Biographies are seldom engrossing and exciting but this one is both. There were times when I was deeply touched by the events of Lindbergh's life and the only way to generate this kind of emotion is through great writing. Mr. Berg is a master!
Rating: Summary: The best book I read last year! Review: This wonderful biography is by far the best book I read last year! It brings to life the amazing and complex life of this very private figure. It reads like a epic novel. A. Scott Berg is one of finest biographers writing today!
Rating: Summary: INFORMATIVE and THOUGHT-PROVOKING Review: How ironic that the "unfeeling media beasts" of the 1990's have been around and doing the damage that they have for decades. Poor Lindbergh was ill-equipped to handle the public adoration and subsequent loathing; this book is an indictment on American society which is quick to "build up a hero" and even quicker to tear that hero limb from limb. Berg's account is level and well-researched. It has been enlightening reading.
