Summary: A Spiritual Classic for the Modern Age
Review: This book will surely rank as one of the greatest spritual classics of all times. In the very first sentence of the book Paramahansa Yogananda mentions that Indian life is characterized by the search for eternal truths and the Guru - Disciple relationship. The entire book is an elaboration of these great themes, filled with wonderful insights. There may not be a more authentic spiritual guide for the modern age than this one penned by such a great Yogi as Paramahansa Yogananda.

  Summary: Fascinating and Inspiring
Review: I have read this book several times over the years, but few stories that stuck with me and which I re-read countless times are the stories about the Trailanga Swami and about Babaji materializing the Palace.

This book uniquely brought to the west the wisdom and wonders from India. Yogananda certainly had some wonderful and amazing lineage of teachers begining with Babaji, then onto Lahiri Mahasaya and Sri Yukteswar.

Stories and teachings from this book are a source of permanent inspiration for me. If you haven't yet - by all means read this book - it is filled with infinite wisdom.

Summary: This book touched my heart.
Review: This book touched my heart. Amazing that this book has stood the test of time. It has the uncanny ability to transform lives of even skeptics. Parmahamsa Yogananada has fused Hinduism with and Christianity in this book thus telling the world, "Nobody has any monopoly on truth or God." Truth & God are universal. Yogananda is completely genuine, a true lover of God and humanity and all life. Words cannot describe the beauty of this book. This book can have the power to change your life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in search after truth. Why am I highly recommending this book? Since this book does not promote any particular religion. It only teaches us methods to mature spiritually. Kriya Yoga which Yoganananda is teaching in this book has no connection with any religion. It is a very scientific, logical method of maturing spiritually and attaining self-realization.

  Summary: Damaged goods
Review: My gripe is not with the book, but with Geminibooks, who supplied the book. In their description they failed to mention that the book had a picture cut out of one page, which deleted the text around that page and on the back of that page. Although I did not spend a lot on the book, I would have spent more to ensure that I got the complete work.

  Summary: Spiritually rejuvenating
Review: From reading this book I am now fully convinced of the power of praying, meditating and having faith in God. This is a very great and power book and it is just a vast reservoir of undeniable wisdom. Reading this book is a very rewarding, life changing experience that will stay with you for probably the rest of your life.

Paramhansa is a great author who backs up everything he says with specific scientific evidence, making this a book that even atheistist can appreciate. The accounts given in this book can at times seem fantastical and utterly unbelievable but as is explained, yoga opens up the soul to unlimited experiences and impossible things are proven very real and attainable.

I would strongly urge all readers to read this book, it will prove to be very fulfilling and worthwhile.

  Summary: A classic...
Review: ...but do check out the current classic work by the living perfected master, Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath - Wings To Freedom. Gurunath is of the Himalayan lineage of the great Nath Yogis. A born Siddha, he was transformed after His deep and personal experience with Shiv Goraksha Nath Babaji, the same Babaji referred to in Autobiography of a Yogi. So if you are left hungry for more after reading this book by Yogananda, buy a copy of Wings to Freedom and continue your journey on the path to Self-Realization.

  Summary: A Spiritual Masterpiece!
Review: Paramahansa Yogananda's book is one for the ages. As some others here have said, this book is life-changing. It truly feels like the author is right there with you, revealing the deepest truths about spirituality and how to know God in a personal way. Yes, he does describe miracles and seemingly impossible happenings. Yet Yogananda's words ring with absolute truth and certainty. Be prepared to open your mind to unlimited possibilities as you read. Also, don't be surprised if you return to this book time and time again over the years. It is no surprise that Amazon lists Autobiography of a Yogi as one of the greatest spiritual works of all time. A few negative reviewers here seem to have personal agendas or biases, perhaps rooted in certain dogmas. If you have any interest in spiritual pursuit, whether Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Islamic, or whatever, I humbly suggest adding this masterwork to your home library. After all, Yogananda called his Self-Realization Fellowship the "Church of all religions", and his mission was to reveal the common truths of all religions to people everywhere.
