Summary: Charming Introduction to Entertaining Series
Review: "The Cat Who..." series by Lillian Jackson Braun offers the lighter side of literary fare. These feline mysteries are mild murder cases intended to be read casually by the fire with a mug of cocoa and a cat on your lap. Pass the hours on breezy Summer evenings or eternal Winter nights with Qwilleran, his quirky compatriots, and of course, two saucy Siamese. "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" is the quintessential mystery, unparalled by its following satirical escapades.

Summary: The perfect "cozies"
Review: "The Cat Who..." series is really one of the best of the light mysteries often referred to as "cozies." Qwill and the cats are always fun, good judges of character, and great mystery-solvers. This one is the first in the series and explains much about how Qwill earned his place in town and in the citizens' hearts. All of the books can be read alone without much confusion, but this one is highly recommended as a beginner to the series and for its great plot.

Summary: The first book. . .
Review: . . .in a charming series of mysteries intended especially for cat lovers.

In this volume, we are introduced to James Qwilleran, formerly a top reporter, but struggling to make his way back, following a divorce and a battle with alcoholism. In his first new assignmet, Qwilleran is assigned to cover the "Art" beat for the "Daily Fluxion" newspaper -- a subject about which he knows absolutely nothing.

We are also introduced to the remarkable Kao Ko Kung -- a remarkable Siamese cat belonging to a local art critic. After a rather bizarre murder, the old reporter in Qwilleran comes to the fore and, with the help of Kao Ko Kung (aka Koko) solves the mystery.

Gastronomes will love this series of books as much as cat lovers, due to the luscious descriptions of food and drink described.

This book is one of the best of the series, and is well worth the time.

Summary: COZY UP WITH THESE CAT COZIES
Review: As a mystery author with my first novel in its initial release, I am literally amazed by the accomplishments of Lilian Jackson Braun. Her series has been running seemingly forever, and each new book continues to be the cat's meow. If you want to start reading this series, begin with THE CAT WHO COULD READ BACKWARDS. With this novel, Ms. Braun launched her series and introduced James Qwilleran and his feline associates. It established the tone for the series, and THE CAT WHO COULD READ BACKWARDS is a top-notch cozy standing purely on its own. Plot, setting, dialog, and characters (human and nonhuman) are well done. I recommend THE CAT WHO COULD READ BACKWARDS (and the rest of the series) highly.

Summary: A Great Start to a Great Series
Review: As others have said, this is the place to start when reading this series. While the mystery aspect of the series is fine, what really sets the "Cat Who" series apart is the characters. Ms. Braun constantly adds new and interesting people to her world, and Qwill's interactions with Koko, and later, Yum Yum, are best parts to this series. If you have ever owned cats, or just like cats, you will love this series. Start here, and enjoy!

Summary: An excellent start to the series.
Review: As the first book in the Jim Qwilleran series, it is an excellent start. The only negative I have is that it is almost half way into the book before Koko is introduced as the first cat. Being a cat lover, I was looking for the cat from the beginning but had to wait; however, it proved worthwhile as the description of Koko's antics were quite amusing. The mystery is hieghtened by Koko's clues and kept me guessing until the end.

Summary: GREAT READ!
Review: Being a cat-lover, the word 'cat' in the title caught my attention. But, henceforth, when reading a mystery, I'm reading the last chapter first! The end of this tale caught me off guard. Where did that dude come from?

Decades ago I read mysteries by Queen and Gardner and enjoyed them but decided no more fiction, just facts from now on. I didn't want to just have fun when I could to be learning new things. Well this particular book taught me plenty about a subject I would have never thought to study. Art. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Summary: My first mystery
Review: Even though I have tried to read a few mysteries in the past, this was the first one that ever got my full attention. I love cats and KoKo was an added treat to the story line.

The story is not what I really expected. I thought that mysteries were about detectives or cops, but this is about a newspaper reporter who is new to the art world, snooping around three murders that occurred.

I also was surprised that there was no murder until after I was more than half way through the book. I see now that I need to put my preconceived notions about mysteries away and keep an open mind.

I will be reading the rest of the books in the series, and next I will be trying a Janet Evanovich book, which everyone tells me is very funny.
