Summary: not into politics...you will be
Review: Michael Moore: If didn't have respect for the man, I would have tried to break up his marriage long ago. For you ladies (and guys perhaps), you will instantaneously fall in love with the brilliant mind of our neo-messiah, Michael Moore. His quick wit and intelligence makes it hard to put this book down. After leaving this book out on the counter of my home, I noticed that at times it would be on the counter, and at others, it would have mysteriously disappeared, only to find out later that each and everyone of my roommates (there's 5 of us) had read it secretly. They did this because they new I would have wanted them to buy their own copy to support Mr. Moore. Not long after our communal admiration for Michael, we all attended a private screening of Bowling for Columbine together. Times were tough with my rommies before Stupid White Men, but since the Michael Moore hysteria that has arisen, we are all much closer and enjoy our new found political awareness. Who would have thought that one man could make such a differene?

Summary: Hilarious!
Review: What can I really say? This is a must-read. While you're at it, see Bowling For Columbine (if it is available in your area). I read the book immediately after seeing the movie, and I can't wait to see the movie again. Both bring out great insight (and they'll keep you laughing!)

Summary: Good read, doesnt let facts get in his way.
Review: The book was an easy read. He kind of glosses some facts that he doesn't agree with (totally ignores others). Gun control, Automobiles, how he was made by his sisters and mother as a kid to do the "womans work" (his words not mine). You get the idea. I read the book, took a couple hours, gave me something to talk about for a few days. Personally I prefer to check a book like this out of the library and buy something a little more substantive and based on real facts.

Summary: The best of the left....distorted facts and half-truths!
Review: This book is a big waste time. Full of distorted points of view that can only being appreciated by a new york times reading socialist. If this is the best modern day book that the left can call their own...it looks like they have hit rock bottom!

Summary: Angry Americans
Review: "Stupid White Men" is an enjoyable read (or is a better word "rant"?) in which Michael Moore, the scourge of corporate America, [talks about] those things which are seriously getting him down in today's USA. Mostly this is George W Bush, but other targets such as the Democratic Party, big business and white men (not surprisingly given the title) come in for heavy flak too.

Looking at things from across the Atlantic, one is tempted not to comment on private grief, but for the fact that although this is a very American book, I felt that much of it rang true for the UK: the dearth of meaningful political choice/debate; the obsession with market-oriented values; and so on. Could Moore be attacking the real pay-off from the Thatcher-Reagan years? If so, and I believe he is doing that, then this is more than a funny book - it voices or represents serious disatisfaction with the state of things in the West, not just the USA.

There's much humour in the book, and its a lively read to say the least. Some parts of the humour succeeded for me more than others, which felt strained. Whether not you agree with all, some or none of what Moore says, his book still worth a look.

Summary: Expected more, still a worthwhile read
Review: Oh-kaaaay then! Michael moore has delivered quite an op-ed piece with "Stupid White Men". I must confess that I really liked the book, and actually agree with a great deal of what is set forth inside. Unfortunately, it is nothing I haven't been hearing for some time now. Just about any late-night radio talk show covers this material regularly, from the left, right, center and outer space. Apart from the book's obviously clever and very effective marriage of humor, satire and serious discussion, I did not find this tome to be what it was hyped up to be.

I did read it in one sitting, and I do not really feel like I need to revisit the material again. The discourse on the (as Moore calls it) stolen election of 2002 is revealing, scary and provocative. This is the high point of the book... and it is unfortunate that it turned up in the first chapter. I kept waiting for more thunderous revelations and gripping investigative results, but was not rewarded thus.

Is it a good book? It is three stars on my scale. It is not particularly well written, but with the subject matter involved, this book isn't necessarily harmed by that. It is a very shrewd delivery of some unsettling, complex and very pertinent information. It does, however, have me waiting for Moore's inevitable response to September 11, Iraq and the War on Terrorism...

Summary: Why don't you have this book?
Review: This book is the best book of 2002. It is smart, funny, and eye opening. You may think that the US government is screwed up but this book will have you wishing you were a Canadian. Moore says all the things that Liberals are thinking but are afraid to say in this post 911 era. You should buy two of these books and give one to your favorite narrow-minded republican "friends".

Summary: Interesting, smart and funny
Review: "Uh? I finished the book? Oh yeah I did!" That is what I thought when I finished it. The author does provide an extensive research on EVERYTHING rotten in the Bush administration. Many of the supportive facts really contribute the reader to ponder: "WOW, is this happening right now!" And the best part is that the author is so funny. You will really enjoy it since it is as if you were reading jokes and jokes (although the facts are really accurate.)
In other words, if you want to know what is happening right now in Washington that affects us as a nation, get this book immediately, it will leave u thinking (and laughing!)

Summary: No Moore, Please
Review: I was unable to give "Stupid White Men" zero stars, so 1 star was the next option. Moore's insipid little book was awful enough to make me return it to the bookstore the day after I bought it. Some reviewers laud his "thorough research" and praise his "tremendous insight" - these people are probably nursing an aching bias that this book only invigorates. "Stupid White Men..." epitomizes a growing faction of today's American Left, with their ad hominem attacks, bleeding-heart principles, and so-called standards of decency that "protect" every minority (women, blacks, Hispanics, et al.) and every supposed right (child pornography, smutty, tax payer-funded art) but that spare nothing to Christians or Republicans. Perhaps this sounds like a Right rant, but please understand how truly insubstantial this book is. If you believe that coming up with half-witty and essentially unoriginal nicknames for the American President stands for valuable commentary, then perhaps you'd enjoy Moore's writing. This book has been on the NY Times best-seller list for several months, but I suspect that most buyers are from liberal enclaves like NYC, its suburbs, and Los Angeles. However much reviewers point to Moore's (relatively few) criticisms of Bill Clinton, this is NOT an unbiased book - its author is just preaching to the choir. Why is such a school of thought - the phrase seems grossly generous in this case - gaining popularity? It reveals nothing worthwhile about current politics, obscures the truth, and demands little real thinking from the reader, supplying instead a tired stream of sound bites that liberals may insert into their diatribes.

Summary: Michael Moore is a Genius
Review: I don't think I have been more inspired by anything in my entire life. Stupid White Men is a great read. It is written by a man who is a diehard liberal, yet he doesn't shy away from dissing the Democrats as well as Republicans. In short, Michael Moore says what everyone is thinking, but is afraid to say out loud. He is a man who is concerned about the future of our nation, and rightfully so. Of course, he points out all of the things about our country that frighten me (on the top of that list: our president), but he makes great point after great point, and just when you think he can't get any better - he makes another great point. All I can say is that if everyone in America shared the same views as Michael Moore, maybe we wouldn't have so much to worry about. If you're looking for a good political read, with a splash of humor, this book is definitely for you. I think that every American should read this book.
