Summary: Hatchet
Review: When I first read the book "The Hatchet", I thought it was a great story, so much that I read it twice. This is not a normal occurrence; in fact, I hate to read, but the story of Brian and how he survived was such a great story. To this day it is still one of my favorite books.
I first read the book in fourth grade, which was about eight or nine years ago, and it still sticks with me today as one of my favorite books. Yes, it is meant mainly for a younger audience, probably a great book for someone in junior high, but it can be a fun book to be read by all that like a good story of adventure.
The reason that I think this was such a good book was probably because I'm a nature freak. I love being in the wilderness and I think every little boy in America at one time imagined being lost in the forest and surviving on nothing but their wits. I heard some other people comment on how they think this is an overdone story, and someone actually compared to the movie Cast Away. Both stories have similar plots, but what makes this story different is that Brian, the protagonist of the story, is no more than thirteen years old, and his plane crashes into the wilderness. The poor boy has to endure the punishment his body took from the plane crash, nurse himself back to health, and then survive with nothing more than a hatchet. I thought it was a great story, and most people that I know who read it all had great things to say about it.
Also, Gary Paulsen has written quite a few books with the same kind of wilderness setting, so if you liked The Hatchet then you will like his other books too. He also wrote a sequel, which wasn't quite as good, but if you liked "The Hatchet", then it's worth reading.

Summary: MY FAVORITE BOOK EVER
Review: I have read this book twice. Once in middle school and again in high school. Still I believe this is my favorite book of all time. Hatchet is an epic battle between man and nature. Brian Robeson is on his way to Canada in a bush plane to see his father. The plane goes down and he's stranded. He has to rely on his instincts and his hatchet to survive. He had some run ins with a few animals while struggling with hunger and coldness. I would recomend this book to readers of any and all ages. It is a great piece of work.

Summary: MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME
Review: I have read this book twice. Once in middle school and again in high school. Still I believe this is my favorite book of all time. Hatchet is an epic battle between man and nature. In this instance, man wins, but nature gives him a run for his money. This book is about a boy, Brian Robeson, who is flying in a bush plane on his way to Canada to see his father, who had just seperated from his mother. As they are flying, the pilot shows Brian the basics of steering the plane. He is afraid at first, but he gradually gets more comfortable with it. Suddenly, the pilot has a heart attack at the wheel, and Brian is left to navigate the plane on his own. He ends up crash landing in a lake, in the middle of the wilderness, where he somehow gets out and ends up on shore. He is left there to fend for himself, with nothing but a hatchet which he had received before he left for his trip. He built himself a lean-to for shelter, but his biggest threat comes at night with coldness and the inability to build a fire to stay warm. Throughout his time in the wilderness, a few other obstacles get in his way including: being attacked by a bear and a moose which he barely survived, and being sprayed by a skunk, which he probably barely survived either, while coping with hunger, all while trying to find a way out before winter sets in. Luckily he gets out by the time it really hits hard. He was very lucky. He became very strong mentally and physically. This is a great book. I would recommend it to readers of all ages.

Summary: It was okay.
Review: Hatchet was an okay story. The end isn't so surprising but it's not supposed to be. It was the best it could be and I liked it but it was rather BORING the entire book except for the beginning and end.

Summary: Beats Harry Potter!
Review: I am a 6th grader in elemtary school. We recently started reading the book. The teacher assigned dates that certain chapters were to be read. But no one, even the teacher, wanted to put the book down. Everyone in the whole class was done with the book within a matter of days. I recomend this book to any person, especially if you are waiting for the next Harry Potter. And I can guarentee that after you read this, you willl want to read BRIAN'S WINTER, THE RIVER, and BRIAN'S RETURN.

Summary: "Cast Away" for the younger set
Review: As one of the required readings for my students, I find this book to be interesting, simplistically written, and filled with enough adventure to appeal to the 12-year-old in all of us. While not up to par with similarly themed classics such as Stevenson's "Swiss Family Robinson" or Dafoe's "Robinson Crusoe," the book has a contemporary feel and the text is for modern audiences.

Summary: THE GREATEST
Review: Hatchet is about a boy who is on a bush plane flying to Canada to visit his father who has divorced his mom. In the plane the pilot has a heart attack and Brian, the main character must fly teh plane eventually crash landing into a lake in the middle of nowhere. Brian must learn to fend for himself in teh wild against bears, starvation, and most importantly get out before winter. This book should be on everyone's shelf. It is at the same level as Harry Potter, Anne Frank, and Redwall which all are great books. This is one of those books you want to have yourself instead of borrowing it from the library.

Thank You

Summary: A Great Book
Review: I really liked this book, it was really real. I gave it to my mom to read and she liked it so much that she cried!!! Anyone and everyone should read Gary Paulsen's HATCHET.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Suspenseful...Not
Review: I had to read Hatchet in 6th grade and it was so boring. Every chapter I was waiting for something to happen. Nothing ever did. The story is very predictable. Man gets on island, man makes fire, man gets saved. This story is just like the movie "Cast Away", except instead of the man talking to a volleyball, Bryan talks to himself. What's the chance of your pilot having a heart attack, then you somehow land on a island, make fire, and survive 45 days in the wilderness? 1/1000. This book got 2 stars from me because the end played in well with all the dullness. This is like Maury, he always plays the same show more that once. But this time, Paulsen's show never got on TV. I suggest this book to old people who like action movies but not the books. I beg your pardon Gary Paulson. You are a great author. What went wrong?
