Summary: Very sad, but good book...
Review: The Jungle was a very good book, (in my opinion). My 8th grade Social Studies made us read it because we were studying industrialization. Well, it didn't take me long to finish it becuase it is such a good book. I could just visualize the meatpacking plants and all the filth that the book describes. Although the characters weren't that well developed, Sinclair got his message across about the injustices of capitalism, especially as they would seem from an immigrants point of view. One thing that I can say about the end is that it is very boring. Sinclair just rambles on and on, and I had to force myslef to finish it. Plus, I don't remember anything that he said in the end. All in all, I recommend this book

Summary: The Jungle: A Waste of Paper
Review: In my four years at Palm Springs High School I have never been subjected to such an atrocious story. I was appalled at Sinclair's descriptions of the meat packing plants. If these depictions held any truth, it seems fairly unreasonable that it would take a work of fiction to bring it to the attention of the proper authorities. I am tired of hearing reviews referring to Sinclair's story as the cause for the development of meat standards. Examination of history will most certainly show this to be untrue.

Summary: One of the greatest books i have ever read!
Review: The Jungle by the critically acclaimed author, Upton Sinclair, is a book about a young Lithuanian immigrant who comes into this country yearning for the American dream. He ends up working in the meatpacking plants in Chicago and there is much controversy as the meat is contaminated with many other ingrediants and people are getting sick and this leads to an FDA law that requires clean meat and food.

Summary: Good, but boring at the end
Review: This book does an excellent job depicting a realistic events in the early 1900's and is enough to make one reconsider his/her views on socialism. The reason I gave it four stars is because I found that the ending weak. But overall this is an excellent book, defenitely worth reading!

Summary: Right...um...whatever
Review: I was given a choice of nearly 25 books to read for my english class and I can't believe I chose this one. The whole class read about 5 chapters together and that was all we had to do. I got dumb and read the whole thing. I can usually get into a book even if I don't like it and finnish it up but I felt right near making up an ending for my book report. It really didn't live up to my gruesome expectations, I'm not complaining, but the book no matter how discriptive it was just wasn't as visual as it should have been. Its also pretty depressing and repetitive. Anyway, this just wasn't a fun book.

Summary: Highly Recommend
Review: This is an excellent historical novel depicting the life of immigrants in early 20th century Chicago, the inhumane working and living conditions they endured, and accurate descriptions of early unions and dirty politics for which Chicago is still (jokingly) known. The only part of this book that I didn't care for was the ending Socialist diatribe. After reading this you will genuinely appreciate the social reform that it brought about--I highly recommend this book.

Summary: The Jungle
Review: This book is very detailed about the meat factory. It is sort of unsettling the way they describe how meat is packaged and made.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: It Might Be a Classic But . . .
Review: This book started out ok and the first 3/4s of the book was pretty interesting. But once you get to the final 1/4, most of the characters are dead and Upton Sinclair is just going on and on about socialism. And by that time, the only thing you can say is "Huh?"

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: It Is Important but Frigan Boring
Review: I ws required to read this book fo my CP English 11 class. I felt that it is an important book to read because it hisorically made me aware of the meat packaging problems. However I found it a book I struggled through because of it's boredom but then again it resembled a history book and I alwaays fall asleep during history.

Summary: Loved It!
Review: This book is an absolute masterpiece and should be read for years to come. It takes an indepth look about how life really and trully was for immigrants and it makes you realize how lucky you are to live like you do. Although i don't think i will be eating much sausage now! :0)
