Summary: Over-lengthy but eventually satisfying.
Review: Having read and loved Lamb's first book "She's Come Undone," I bought this second book with little doubt that it would be good. I struggled through hundreds of pages before I started to enjoy the story and be pulled in by it. While I recognized excellent writing and story-telling all the way through, I felt mired in too much detail and a slow-moving story. It wasn't until I was two-third's of the way through (600 pages!!) that I really started to look forward to picking up the book at bedtime. The last third of the book was fantastic and compelling. I just resent having to slog through 600 pages (more than the size of the average book) to get to the good part. I am glad that I persevered through my discouragement and finished the book. It is very well done...but in my opinion, it could have used some more stringent editing.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A wonderful journey of self and family
Review: This is a wonderfully written novel. I thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every page. Anyone who has siblings will appreciate this book. Lamb does a wonderful job of getting into the heads of his characters and evoking their emotions on paper. Definately well worth reading.

Summary: I would rate it higher if given the chance
Review: There are some books that don't fit into a 5 star rating. These would be things like your favorite books, that rate higher than the other ones that you merely enjoyed. Both Wally Lamb books would fit on this scale. I am so eagerly awaiting his next book because the past two have been so terrific.

When I first read She's Come Undone, I was amazed. I thought that nothing would be able to come close to being as good as that book is. Then, I Know This Much is True came out. I was sceptic about reading it, since it was so expensive in hardcover and was so long. Plus, could Wally Lamb really keep up the tradition he set for She's Come Undone?

Finally, when this came out in trade paper back, I grabbed a chance to read it. WHOA! I could not set this book down! It is a long book-- about 900-something-- but I read it so quickly. I got through the first 200 in a day, and finished the last 700 the next couple of days, barely setting it down. And even though I started off thinking about how long the book was, after I completed the final page, I realized how short it seemed and wished that it could be longer.

This is the story about two twins. It is told though the view of Dominick Birdsey as his life slowly falls apart. His twin brother, Thomas, is schitzophrenic. Dominick is never fully recovering his mother's death and his wife's divorce. He begins to talk to Thomas' psychiatrist about Thomas and finds out that the psychiatrist is actually helping him, too. The un-crazy twin. This is as much as I could go into the story without ruining it. I soooooooooo strongly recommend this to anyone who likes Wally Lamb, Oprah's books... hey, basically anyone who likes reading!

Enjoy.

Summary: A Beautiful Story
Review: This book at first seems to be about Thomas, Dominick's twin brother who commits an unthinkable act. But in the end, this book is not so much about one brother or the other, but of the "wholeness" of life -- what wholeness is, and how we find it. A wonderful story that will really make you think along the way!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Portrait of a Disfunctional Family
Review: This book held my interest, beginning to the end. One dimensional characters, yet still interesting. While Dominick was a mixture of all of them. It was solid in writing and emotion. If you love to find symbolism in everything, this book is chalk full. If you don't, you won't be baffled. All I can say is...thank God, I didn't grow up in this family!

Summary: Another head trip.
Review: Lamb has spun another great tale about interesting characters who fall into a void of mental illness. We see the beginning of the illness, how it affects everyone concerned and how it is handled by the Mental Health community. These are characters we care about and we need to know what happens to them The subplot of Nick's grandfather's story in Sicily is great - what an imaginative story! It's a great read.

Summary: Wow...
Review: I'm exhausted! I feel that I have lived the characters' lives with them. I have just finished this extraordinary novel, and I am in awe of Wally Lamb. He is a truely talented and imaginative man. I have never read a novel that could keep so many lives, stories, and happenings, so connected AND interesting until the last paragraph on the last page. I was sceptical at first and thought I would never get through the book, but before I knew it, I was on the home straight and wanting more.

Please do yourselves a favor...grab a G&T, sit back and enjoy the book. You may then realise, as I have, how wonderfully uncomplicated your own life really is!! I'll definitely read more of his writing in the near future. Now back to my abandoned housework!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best books ever written
Review: I absolutely loved this book! I put off reading it for a long time because of the length, but once I got into the story I didn't notice it at all. The characters are great and the story is riveting. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: intelligent fiction- what a concept!
Review: I adored this book so much that I literally didn't want to finish reading it! There are many well-spoken reviews here for this book, so I'll keep it short- it's the best book I've read since She's Come Undone, also by Wally Lamb. Thank you Wally for the intelligent, engrossing fiction my life has been missing. I anxiously await your future endeavors.

Summary: Wonderful book!
Review: This is the best book I have ever read. I bought it by chance, not really knowing anything about it, and what a read it was! The fact that is was 900+ pages disappeared in the first couple chapters - I couldn't wait to get up in the morning to start reading it again.
