Summary: My first Bosch but not my last.
Review: This book kept me from page one through the end. I loved the Harry's character. What I loved best was that I had no idea where this would lead and never would have guessed the end. I read Blood Work which everybody raves about. This book surpasses by far.

  Summary: Entertaining but lesser Bosch
Review: Connelly's latest work has Harry Bosch returning to solve the murder of a high profile LA lawyer. While the book is entertaining, Bosch has mellowed to the point of being an observer. He seems to be able to control his temper, and rarely shows outright defiance to his superiors. This marked Bosch in the earlier books. Now Harry seems to be blending in with other puzzle solvers such as Dave Robicheaux who have mellowed their ways. Dont get me wrong - it's not that characters cant develop, it's just that the development is not well explained. Marriage may have calmed Bosch, but I expected his marital problems to have had a more volatile effect on him. Similarly Edgar and Rider have little to do except moan about being racially used in the case. By not allowing them more character time, Connelly just about does the same. All in all an entertaining work, but with less character work than previous Bosch books.

Summary: Much better than the predictable Blood Work. Loved It.
Review: I loved this book. You still don't have all of the pieces until the last 20 pages. I am hooked with this effort. I highly recommend it.

Summary: A page turner with many surprise twists.
Review: Michael Connelly again takes you through a web that makes you want to read faster and faster. His characters are well developed and you can feel the emotions that wind themselve throughout the story line. The sensitivity to the racial issue between minorities and police is handled realistically and the pressures that build between partners is lifelike. The story is believable, captivating, and just when you think the picture is clear Connelly leads you around the corner to a new set of facts. Through out it al, the main charecter, Bosch, maintains his focus and personality , which you come to admire. At the end you have circled back to the culprit who suffers a miserable fate.

  Summary: Great gripping suspense thriller
Review: The author develops the characters magnificently. You feel as though you are right there in the head of the character. He just gets better as he writes

  Summary: Great
Review: Loved this book, love Harry. hate his needy wife. Look forward to seeing Clint Eastwood in Bloodwork even if he doesn't look like the FBI agent. There is a touch of realism in the cover- up, just hope Harry will be around for future books.

Summary: The best of the Bosches
Review: Until this one, I liked Connolly's non-Boschers, The Poet and Bloodworks, better than the Bosch stuff, simply because I didn't take to Harry's tortured soul. Now that he's becoming un-tortured (even without a wife), Harry seems a more balanced and focused character. Unlike some other critics, I don't mind the racial themes. Rodney King did happen and relations between cops and minorities aren't exactly wonderful, in LA, in New York and most other major cities. I even liked Connolly's little self-promotions, like the ad for a movie called "Bloodworks'' with Clint Eastwood. I'm not up on inside Hollywood stuff, but I guess something like that is on the horizon.

  Summary: thrown a curve ending
Review: Just when I thought I was figuring this book out, Connelly throws you through a loop.

  Summary: Very Disappointing
Review: My least favorite Connelly book. I think he's taken Harry as far as he can go. The stopped-smoking and wife-leaving sub plots are boring, and the red herrings are too obvious. The attempt to pull actual headline fodder into the overall mix (OJ, JonBenet, etc) are too easy and seem manipulative. Connelly can, has had done, much better. "The Poet" & "Blood Work", which were not about Harry, are much better plotted and paced.
