Summary: Awsome Book
Review: This book is a very good. I am going to start Hannibal tonight. If you have not read it yet read it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I read this one years ago
Review: I read 'The Red Dragon' back when 'Silence of the Lamb' was first released in print. Someone told me Silence was the 'second' chapter to the series. I just had to read the 'first' chapter first. Then I heard about 'Manhunter' the movie. I could hardly find it, video stores had only 1 or 2 copies of it. I still remember every scene and how it scared me as well as keeping me captive. I can't wait to start the 'third' one.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Attention grabber, bar but a few
Review: I wanted to read the source of the movie, which is at least, a cult classic. Michael Mann, with Manhunter, did what few have done - outdid the written word. The movie in many respects seriously challenges Silence of the Lambs. I was a trifle put off by the seemingly obligatory ending in the book, but both brought the stark face of a murderer up close and personal.

Summary: Has some neat bits, but on the whole, not great
Review: The first half of the book is pretty good. It starts off and flows incredibly well: despite its seemingly long 354 pages, I was able to complete it in about two days. The characters are fleshed out quite well; you come to truly know all of the protagonists, and, for a change, the killer as well.

Unfortunately, when it comes to plot, I found it to be somewhat lacking. The plot deals with a former FBI agent, Will Graham, being brought out of retirement to aid in the apprehension of serial killer. The Graham and the FBI run about the US in an attempt to locate the killer before he slays again. Graham has the impressive and unenviable ability to identify with serial killers, and thus understand their motive and nature. The reader often finds himself wondering why Graham, who seems to understand serial killers so well, is not one himself; what makes a serial killer? This question is briefly explored, though never answered. As the book reaches its middle, its quality dramatically declines, and the end winds up being surprisingly bad.

On the whole, it is a good book, worthy of reading if you have some free time. However, it does not deserve classic status.

As a side note, Hannibal Lecter did not play a major part in the this book and only appeared a few times.

Summary: Pretty Good, but With Flaws
Review: This book satisfied my "murder mystery" desire, don't get me wrong, but didn't live up to the billing, and certainly wasn't as compelling as Silence of the Lambs (especially the movie). The action scenes and descriptions of the police trying to put the clues together were very good, original, and crisply written, but I was disappointed with the bizarre details of the killer's infatuation with the 'Red Dragon' painting. I thought this was a silly supplemental explanation for the killer's behavior (beyond his tragic childhood).

Summary: For its genre this is a top-notch read.
Review: If you are looking for the perfect airplane, vacation, or I'm-tired-of-overthinking-things book this is it. Believable, compelling characters are often lacking in thrillers but Harris has created some doozies here.If you like Ridley Pearson and Thomas Perry you will enjoy this book.

Summary: Wow.....read it in one night!
Review: This has to be one of the most suspenseful books that I have ever read. The plot was amazing and the characters were developed fully. I loved Will Graham and D. This was an excellent book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I THINK IT CAPTURES THE READER IN A INTENSE FLOW OF HORROR!
Review: THIS BOOK IS SIMPLY WHAT YOU'D EXPECT FROM THOMAS HARRIS. IT IS BONE CHILLING HORROR THAT MAKES YOU THINK, COULD THIS HAPPEN TO ME????

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Stumbled Upon It
Review: I, apparently like a lot of others, stumbled upon this book in the recent advertising blitz for the new Hannibal(does anyone else find it perverse that so many of us drool to see what Hannibal will do next?). First off, the book is believable. The depth that Harris uses in scoping the crimes scenes lends credibility to the novel. Even if he is just making it up, he's believable. Secondly, the killer is realistic enough to make you question your neighbors, but not so much so that he's boring. And, yes, it is scarey. It isn't the kinda book that's going to change your life and bring you more in tune with yourself, but it might make you think about a new security system.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Forget watching 'Manhunter' and read the book instead!!
Review: Once again proof is offered that nothing compares to reading the story instead of watching it! True, 'Manhunter' evokes the disturbing atmosphere surrounding Will Graham and his empathy with serial killers. Yet nothing in the film even comes close to the strength of the storyline and the paced unravelment of the 'plot'. The psyche of the killer is described through a narrative of his youth in only a few pages, yet this makes him frighteningly human to the reader! This probably makes out the strength of this novel, paced at perfection and gripping right up to the very end!
