Summary: No Absolute Power
Review: This books starts out slow, picks up its pace, then devolves into a wholly unrealistic premise. I doubt whether anyone believes the government is completely pristine but, really, robbing Peter (blackmailing government officials) to pay Paul (a 1-man campaign to help third-world countries) is laughably unbelievable. Still in all, I did enjoy the interplay between Faith, a would-be material witness, and Lee, a PI who shows up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Too, Lee's skill in saving Faith and her erstwhile mentor from rogue CIA agents, double-crossing FBI operatives, and assorted and sundry other miscreants makes for an entertaining story. The mechanism for bringing these two together, however -- the conspiracy which is the main theme of the story -- completely defies credulity. I did love the scenes set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, one of my favorite places. The bottom line is that this book pales in comparison to "Absolute Power", "The Simple Truth", and "Total Control", and I wish I had waited 'til it came out in paperback to buy it.

Summary: Captivating
Review: This book is a sure page turner. Baldacci has done it again! "Saving Faith" is literary genius. Never have I read a mystery-thriller /love story and it all fit together. Not your ususal boy meets girl, but that makes it all the better. Because Baldacci was able to maintain his story line with a bit of zest. Loved it! Keep up the good work.

Summary: Stilted and Forced
Review: I've enjoyed his previous books, but this one seems forced, like he needed to quickly produce something to meet a deadline. The plot wasn't very interesting, the characters never really captured me, and the whole FBI vs. CIA theme was way overblown.

Summary: Big Disappointment
Review: This book didn't begin to meet the quality of "Total Control" and "Absolute Power" or even "The Winner." There was little mystery or suspense. The illegal government conspiracy plot was boring and hard-to-believe. The government, FBI and CIA characters were not developed into people that were interesting or worth caring about. The "love" story between two of the characters was on the level of a cheap dime-store paperback romance novel.

Summary: Weak
Review: I'm sorry I bought this one. Weak premise, weak plot, weak character development- it's hard to remember much about the story. Not a memorable or exciting novel. I remember wishing it would end early. My 2 stars are generous.

Summary: Saving Faith
Review: I have enjoyed Mr. Baldacci's previous books but this one has been difficult to get through. Previous reviews have captured enough of the plot for me to figure out the conclusion so I think I'll quit reading while I'm ahead. Complex and boring!

Summary: saving faith
Review: This was a long awaited book I liked his previous books Absolute Power, The winner and Total control. This book seemed predictable in places. There was also suspense in some areas. If you like this author you won't be totally disappointed, it;s just not as captivating as his other books.

Summary: Baldacci mailed in this one...
Review: I was really looking forward to this book, butunfortunately Baldacci is continuing the downward trend started by his last effort. Basically, his first three books were great, his last was pretty good, however Saving Faith is simply mediocre. Number one, the plot is poor. It really doesn't make any sense and it is very thin. Two, the characters are very one-dimensional and dull, with the exception of Thornhill (he is simply assinine). I wouldn't have really cared if someone had of come in and killed a bunch of them off- it might have been welcomed, in fact. Number three, the book is way too long- take out all the filler and you could probably cut out minimum 50 pages. It seemed as though Baldacci did a lot of research that he felt was necessary to stick in even though it bogged down the plot and cut out any possible excitement or suspense. For example, almost every chapter with Buchanan is virtually pointless except to take up page after page with all of the information Baldacci researched about politics in Washington. And finally, there really were no major twists at all, or any suprises much either. Although it does get better towards the end.

Having said all of this, it still isn't really a BAD book, but I expected much more form Baldacci; there just isn't anything to set it apart from other, much better books. It is in a word, mediocre. If you haven't read Baldacci before you definitely should read one of his earlier books.

Summary: Lacking originality
Review: This type of book seriously makes me want to quit reading fiction. I was not impressed with Baldacci's new "thriller" at all. In fact it made me do something that I hate doing, fast forwarding (skipping ahead).

There is nothing in this book that I haven't read before. For God's sake, the guy names his dog Max! It lacks a unique story that I would have expected from Baldacci--good guy befriends woman in trouble, they fall in love, fight off bad govt. employee, climax at the end. I feel like vomiting the number of times I've heard this plot. If you are a reader who likes reading different subjects, then please spare yourself and skip this book.

One final thing...I noticed that on the back cover of this book Dave is smiling--surely this is because of his paycheck and NOT because he has written something to be proud of.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Loved It
Review: Baldacci is my favorite author in this genre. While "Saving Faith" wasn't my favorite book that he's written, it was still great...I read it in one day. Keep up the good work, David!
