Rating: Summary: Patricia Cornwell Was Absent from this Book Review: I truly think Patricia Cornwell had a ghost writer for this book and not a good one at that. I was expecting the usual gripping Kay Scarpetta mystery but instead got all the "fringe" characters with an absurd plot.I don't think this will give anything away about the book but really now....talking crabs, talking dog & a seeing-eye horse? I think Cornwell was busy trying to find out the true identity of Jack the Ripper and had to just put something down for a book because this is definitely not her usual superb writing. I hope her next novel gets back to the basics of Dr. Scarpetta and Marino. I really missed them in this one.
Rating: Summary: Don't Bother with this one! Review: I bought this as I usually love Patricia Cornwell novels. I was very sorry I bought this one. Could not tell if it was meant to be funny or not. It isn't. It took me forever to read it because I could not get interested and stay interested for more than a page at a time.

Rating: Summary: What Happened???? Review: As a long time fan of Patricia Cornwell (from her first book) and buying them as soon as they were published in hard cover, this book was so bad I couldn't even finish it. I managed to get half-way thru before I gave up and it never made sense because I couldn't understand the prose. Please, Ms. Cornwell, go back to writing good mysteries.
Rating: Summary: Silly Review: This is the third novel in the series featuring Officer Brazil and Judy Hammer. Brazil wants to use his journalism skills in order to help the police department and with the blessing of his boss, Judy Hammer he creates the Trooper Truth web site. He uses this forum to talk about Virginia history and to talk about law enforcement. All it does is create more trouble than this book is worth. The governor of Virginia is putting stringent laws to the island of Tangier in the coast of the state. The people from Tangier want to become independent of the state. A lot of confusion is created in this book for its characters as well as the readers. There is a lot of play of words, a comedy of errors and some slapstick humor. This book is meant to be a satire but I think it fails miserably. There were very few scenes that were funny. There is also a cameo appearance by Kay Scarpetta, which seems to be a token for the faithful reader. I do not know what else to say since I do not have any constructive suggestions for this book I just hope to enjoy Ms. Cornwell's next novel and forget about this one.
Rating: Summary: An Insult to Faithful Readers Review: I had no warning that this book was to be an experimental departure from Cornwell's usual riveting and informative style before I paid full price for the hardcover of Isle of Dogs. From now on I'll wait for the paperback. I could have appreciated another partly humorous book like Southern Cross, which featured the same main characters. But this book made no logical sense and the writing was juvenile -- Trooper Truth, indeed! Did you really write this one, Patricia? The book succeeds in one area, however. It manages to insult the intelligence of Virginians, state troopers, blacks, hispanics, Asians, fat people, old people, blind people, poor people and most of all...faithful readers of Cornwell novels. The only character who did not suffer from chronic stupidity was Cornwell's alter ego, Kay Scarpetta, who made a cameo appearance in the book. Note to the publisher, G.P. Putnam & Sons: A good editor with common sense and courage could have saved Ms. Cornwell from embarrassment and maybe even have saved this book by having the guts to tell a famous author "no, the humor of talking blue crabs and trout will not be appreciated by your established readership." All writers, and especially the most famous writers, need a good strong editor.
Rating: Summary: I agree with Swizterland Review: When it comes to conflict, Switzerland has always maintain its neutrality. I agree with reader from Switzerland. I too liked Cammy Diaz's review, but do not like this book very well. I also agree with the majority of the several hundred other reviewers. This book was odd. I wonder if a new writer had tried to submit this for publication if it would have seen light of day. Patricia Cornwell is a good writer and I will continue to buy and read her books. I'll just put Isle of Dogs on to the hiccup pile and read on. Oh, why 3 stars? It's my neutral vote, like Switzerland. Great writer, wrong book. K‚¹‚È"Ç'
Rating: Summary: Couldn't even finish it Review: I have read every Patricia Cornwell book to date. I have done everything that I possibly can to get to page 200 of this book, and I'm going to have to put down. This is not the Cornwell I know. Actually, regardless of who the author is, it isn't enough to keep one's interest. I'll pass and wait patiently on the next one!
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: Like most of the reviews posted here, I was very disappointed in this book. I didn't really like her first Judy Hammer book, but decided to give Ms. Cornwell another chance. I thought perhaps I was just prejudiced because I enjoyed Kay Scarpetta so much! That was not the case. This simply was not a well-written book with dull, boring characters......Come on Patricia, we KNOW how good a writer you are....give us another good one!!! (p.s. Scarpetta or not....)
Rating: Summary: VERY DISAPPOINTED Review: A very favorite Author has flipped! I buy all P.D.CORNWELL'S books read them then send them on to my grandaughter in Richmond, Va.(another Fan). We both want to know WHO really wrote this book? I gave up threequarters through. Bless her heart, she completed it and admitted it didn't get better.
