Summary: Bitter bowl full of drivel
Review: Ms. Weiner forgot to do her research. Even though she apparently wrote a thesis on "representations of maternity in women's novels and film", she doesn't seem to have ever asked a mother how it feels to be pregnant and have a child. No one refers to their child as "some miniaturized, prickly fruit-human hybrid" (page 366). If Ms. Weiner had thought to visit a NICU she would have found tiny, fragile BEAUTIFUL babies often clinging to life. Yes, it is scary and sad, but picking on premature babies is cheap and disgusting.

Aside from that, the main character, Cannie, (a name trying too hard to be different) is self-absorbed, mean spirited and incessantly whiny. Ms. Weiner misses the mark in portraying the other characters, who have decidedly more character than Cannie, as giving a damn about her. Unlikely, I think.

The plot is pretty far-fetched, but I'll give her the one star for pace. Thankfully, it doesn't take long to read this book. It will take longer to eliminate the bad taste in my mouth.

Summary: Great Read
Review: I really enjoyed this book so much so that I was disappointed when I finished it. I really felt connected to the characters and felt the emotions between the main character and her eventual love interest. You could feel the intense emotion throughout this novel. I can't wait to read her next book!

Summary: well written, speaks to the heart
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It viewed life from the perspective of a heavier woman, with all of the insecurities involved, the inherent defenses that are built up through the years of comments from other people, and yet showed a strength and a sense of humor towards life.

Summary: give me a break
Review: This book should be sold along with what other kids in junior high are reading. Ms. Weiner apparantly forgot to consult an editor before they published this book. The plot is so predicable and the writing so wordy. Do we need to hear the description of every last detail? I assure you, the adult audience you intended this book for as an imagination. And Cannie, get over the fact that your father left you already.
Take my advice, leave this book for the children graduating from Judy Blume.

Summary: An amazing first book by Jennifer Weiner
Review: Funny, sarcastic, and touching close to home for any woman who reads this. I must say that the title and cover of this book drew me in first. I thought "This looks cute..." But it was more than that. Cannis is a REAL character. She's you. She's me. She's a real woman with real-life issues, and she isn't perfect.

I felt myself relating to her more and more as I read her story..... She finds herself living alone in her late twenties with her dog, coping after a breakup with her loser pretty-boy exboyfriend, part of a disfunctional family complete with deadbeat dad and his young and perfect new wife, a "matter of fact" mother and her lesbian ... lover, and to top it all off, she's overweight, drinking, wishing she could get out of her reporter job to publish the screenplay she's been putting aside for far to long........and she's PREGNANT!

Cannis is strong and independent, extremely sarcastic and hilariously funny, but just as emotionally vunerable deep down as we all are. I couldn't put this one down, you'll laugh and cry and cheer her on!...

Summary: Crackers in Bed
Review: This was a great quick read. I simply couldn't put it down, it went everywhere with me for 2 days! And it was most definitely good in bed.

On the same track as Brigette Jones, but more rounded and full. If you've ever felt remotely the odd one out because you're not a size 6, please give this book a read. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Good In Bed ....Great Read
Review: This was one of the best books (of this type) that I have ever read. Cannie is one of the most developed and REAL characters in modern books. I love the fact that she is not "perfect." There is no suprise ending in the book but at the same time the twists and turns that get you there are a lot of fun. This book has been passed around my group of friends and everyone has loved it.

Summary: A little unreal, but still a good read
Review: Although I found the story to be a little unbelieveable at times, I still enjoyed it and found that it had really good life lessons embedded in the storyline.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Read it in one day! It's that good!!
Review: You CANNOT put this book down! What an awesome array of characters and subplots mixed in with the obvious question, "Will anyone ever be able to love me the way I am?" as thought by Cannie the main character. This character goes through serious and sometimes amusing delimmas that you would have never expected! She seems to be in the right place at the wrong time for both good and bad results! Cannie is hysterically funny througout the tale of her travels and experiences, yet mixed in, you will find yourself sobbing over the what fate has dealt her.
I cannot say enough of Ms. Weiner the author- she has done an awesome job with this novel and I can't wait to read her second one (despite seeing not the greatest reviews)!
No matter what your size, shape or family situation, you will find something that relates you to the main character and the trials of her life! YOU will LOVE this BOOK!

Summary: Not so good
Review: This book initially hooked me with its first chapter and its quick and amusing dialogue, but I think that it dragged a lot in the middle. Even though it picked up at the end with several plot twists, this did not make up for the boring middle, which was way too wordy and over-written. It was a struggle to endure to the end of the book, to be honest. Even the ending was not much to my liking as it seemed rushed and not very realistic.

No need to go into the story-that has been done by a couple of hundred reviewers before me. "Good in Bed" had the bones of a good story but, like Cannie, it was too fleshed-out and tried to deal with one too many issues, several of which were talked to death!

I also did not much like Cannie. I thought she was incredibly whiny and self-absorbed -I wondered what all her friends got out of their one-way friendship with her. She was not at all giving or caring throughout most of the book and was totally unappreciative of what others were doing for her. And I hated the smart-mouthiness-which seems to be a requisite for so-called witty books about young women.

There were little things that bothered me, like Cannie fitting into Maxi's clothes! As if !!!! Also, there was a serious error toward the end of the book. Cannie had flown into Newark International Airport, a good hour and a half from Philadelphia, when she had her "accident". Yet family and friends were said to be dropping in at the hospital -something they would not have been doing if she was in a hospital that far from Philly. Then, when she is released from the hospital she walks to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to see the baby. I think Weiner and her editor forgot that Cannie did not fly into Philadelphia Airport and that she would have been taken to the closest hospital to Newark!
