Rating: Summary: A Must Read! Review: Having just finished Jemima J I was less than anxious to read anything else that featured a "larger" heroine. I figured that it too would be trite and stereotypical about the perspective that we have on the world. I couldn't have been more wrong. Cannie is a strong, independent woman, who like everyone, has her baggage and insecurities but gets through it with her intelligence and sense of humor. I couldn't put this book down. I can't wait to read more from this author, who has the unique ability to combine reality and fantasy. There are elements of the book where Cannie gets to live out the life we wish we all had but that culminates with dashes of reality and parallels to my own life that make this book even more poignant.
Rating: Summary: For addicts of the genre Review: First, the part that astounded me: if you're going to write a romantic novel and throw in two or three historical facts, can't you take the trouble to verify them first? This author makes several mentions of "Israel's Seven-Day War" - this while making quite a point of being thoroughly Jewish. Ouch. Embarrassing errors aside, this novel is mildly amusing and would be quite interesting if it were about two-thirds the length. As it is, there are quite a few implausible characters and improbable events, and the story depends heavily on the main character's irresistability due to her wit, but the wit itself is not terribly sparkling, which is what makes most of the events in the book so improbable. On the positive side, the storyline is not predictable, and did make me curious enough to overcome the often humdrum storytelling to find out what happened at the end. And there are some characters three-dimensional enough to make you almost care.
Rating: Summary: A terrific read Review: I thought this book was GREAT! I truly enjoyed reading a book about a heavyset woman who actually feels comfortable in her skin. Yes, there were bits that were unrealistic..ok, so maybe a lot of it was, but I laughed out loud at many of the spots and I was ready to cry in some. I had a lot of sympathy for the boyfriend, I think it would be really interesting to read a book from his perspective of the same events.
Rating: Summary: terrible Review: The worst fiction I've read in a long time. The book for me, was an insult for all over weight girls.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: I thought this was one of the best books I have read in a long time. It was funny, sweet, everything you could want in a book. It is a must read!
Rating: Summary: a good surprise Review: READ IT!!! I don't want to sound dramatic, but I have no choice: this book literally brought me to tears! It starts intersting, very funny, with some drama... but from the middle to the ending, the story went on a surprising twist that really got me hocked! If you want something deeper than Bridget, this is the right choice!
Rating: Summary: Good in Bed Review: This novel was amazing! Any woman who is trying lose weight, has relationship problems, or is just under the weather should read this book! It gives you a new perspective that you are not alone, even though the characters are fictional! I have been waiting for someone to write a book like this for a long time! 2 Thumbs Up! I can't wait for the next novel from this author!
Rating: Summary: A great fast read. Review: I really enjoyed this book. Nothing too deep but a good story that keeps you interested. The author is very funny and I'm already looking forward to her next book.
Rating: Summary: Good book for beach. Review: A feel-good "fat girl's revenge book." Yes, plus-sized women deserve their day in the sun too, and that's why this should be read by the pool or on the beach. I liked it well enough, but the heroine's suffering garnered little sympathy from me and her success, while enviable, is as believable as Subway's Jared commercials.
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT... Review: It's a very easy read, and I mean no disrespect to the author in saying this, it's just not the kind of novel you'll ever have to flip back a few pages to cross-reference something. I loved it. The author clearly loves her characters, and each, though somewhat implausible, is beautifully crafted. The story line, I know one reader described it as "fairytale like", which it is, is emotionally rich. I loved everything about this book and would highly recommend it.
