Rating: Summary: My Review Review: Nancy Drew and the Secret of the Old Clock By: Keene, Carolyn Reviewed by: Gandhi, Rujuta Period: P.1 In the beginning, Nancy witnesses a girl almost getting hit by a truck. Fortunately, the young child crosses the road in time, however, she falls over a bridge. Nancy quickly runs and picks up this five year old child. Nancy finds everything is all right and then the child's aunt rushes outside. The child awakens at her house where her and her aunt live. Nancy slowly gets involved in her first mystery ever! She learns that Judy and her aunts, Allison and Grace, are very poor and trying to get a will that was left behind by Allison and Grace's uncle. Nancy also learns that the money is in a secret clock that was stolen by movers. One of the mover's name was Josiah Crowley. The mover was riding in the truck that almost hit Judy. In general, Nancy solves the mystery when she finds a key to the movers truck. The key was next to one of the tires. Therefore, the clock is given back to the owners, Allison and Grace. In the clock is a big stash of money that their small family needs. I liked this book because it was descriptive. It also kept you guessing. For instance,"An instant later she gasped in horror." This sentence doesn't say much, but it makes you want to read on to see what was wrong. Since I read the books out of order it told me something was going to go wrong. This quotation doesn't simply keep you reading on, it gives some description. The author could have wrote,"Nancy gasped." Instead, she decided to give you a hint of what was going to happen. I like this in a story. Similar to all the other Nancy Drew books, it was hard to find a point where it got a bit tedious. This time it was the part when Nancy and the police were trying to find the movers. It took quite a few pages to present this. However, I was still interested because of the high amount of description. For example,"Then, unexpectedly, she caught a glimpse of a red taillight on the road far ahead." It was hard to find a tedious part. I would say this book was almost PERFECT! My favorite part of the book was the beginning. It was very descriptive. In the beginning, a girl, Judy, was nearly run over by the movers. Then Nancy saw and went to go rescue the girl when the young girl fell over the bridge. It was also dramatic. I really enjoyed this book, especially, the beginning!

Rating: Summary: The Never Ending Series.... Review: I first discovered Nancy Drew in 1989 when I was 11 yrs. old, and ever since then, my intrest in Nancy Drew has stood strong. Ever since 1929 to today, the yr. 2003, the Nancy Drew series has STILL be going. Thats how much joy shes brought into the world. And as for the 12 yr old reviewer who was telling us to read Harry Potter instead,to grow up, etc., well, im sorry if you don't like Nancy Drew, but you can't tell us to stop reading a series and to grow up, when it's really just YOUR opinion...
Rating: Summary: Not Bad For Nancy's First Case Review: This review concerns both the original 1930 edition as well as the revised 1959 edition. Josiah Crowley has died and his will states that all of his money is to be left to the rich, snobby Topham family, who only took the old man into their home so that they could get his fortune. However, there are rumors of a second will which would leave the money to people that actually liked and cared for Josiah and who are really in need of it. Desperatley wanting to help these people, Nancy is determined to locate the second will if it exists. The original and revised editions have some differences (aside from the revised being shorter), but basically they tell the same story. Personally, I prefer the original edition. The writing is so much better in the original and the scenes are so well described that you can almost picture yourself there. The revised editions are all stripped of the rich language that characterized the early original editions. The story isn't bad and the mystery isn't very complex, which is understanable given that this is Nancy's first case. This isn't the most exciting book, but it does manage to keep you entertained while you're reading it.
Rating: Summary: Very Suspensful...NOT! Review: Ok, so I don't like Nancy Drew that much. All the books are the same! She always gets caught, someone always gets knocked out, and she always finds what she's looking for!(I am talking of all the Nancy Drew books in general). Carolyn Keene should of put a little more spice into it. But I'm not saying that the books are totally bad. I'm still reading, and I am interested in them. But they are so...well, I can't think of the right word, but maybe if you read them yourself then you'll think of a good one.
