Summary: Falling apart - I've read it so many times!
Review: What can I say!? Terry Brooks is the one who pretty much spearheaded my interest in Fantasy with The Sword of Shannara, and from there I also went on to enjoy the tales of the magical kingdom of Landover. Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold is one of my all-time favorite books. I loved it as a child, and still love it as an adult. In fact, I've lost track of how many times I have read and re-read it over the years. It is a definite keeper, and one that I have recommended to all my friends, and anyone that has a love of Fantasy.

Have you ever wished that you could find a portal to another world? Have you ever dreamed of being swept away into a magical land with fantastical creatures? Well that is exactly what happened to Ben Holiday. He answered an add in a Christmas catalogue, thinking it to be a joke, and instead found himself stepping through the boundary between our world and the world of Landover ... and as it's king no less! Sounds wonderful right? Well, let's just say that things were not exactly what he expected!

Terry Brooks has spun a thoroughly enchanting tale with Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold! It has so many wonderful elements; magic, romance, fascinating creatures, humor, a hint of mystery, and lots of wonderful, quirky characters. But be warned ... once you pick it up, you will not be able to put it down until you have read the last page! And the adventure doesn't end there. There are four more books in the series, all equally as good as the first; The Black Unicorn, Wizard At Large, The Tangle Box, and Witches' Brew.

I highly recommend this book. If you haven't yet read it yet, then what are you waiting for?!! Buy it now! You will not be disappointed ... I promise.

Summary: Terry Brooks takes you in to an whole new world
Review: Recently I finished reading an exciting book "Magic Kingdom For Sale:Sold" by Terry Brooks. I would definitely recommend this book to others that are interested in this author. This book may appear to be a classic style fantasy with knights in shining armor fighting dragons. But, Terry Brooks has managed to add an unusual twist to it by placing the setting in a large, modern city in the first part of the novel. This is a great book for summer reading because you simply cannot put it down. It may be a little more difficult for children under the age of eleven because of its length and some of the vocabulary. The story starts out in the large city. A well-known lawyer named Ben Holiday is the main character. Ever since Ben's wife died, he had been very depressed and in need of a break from the real world. One night, Ben arrives at his house from work and he has received a Christmas catalog in the mail. As he is flipping through it, he finds an ad for a private island filled with fantasy and magic. At this time he is strongly in need of a place to escape. He considers it. When Ben's working partner hears about this consideration, he becomes very angry. The thought that the top lawyer in the firm is considering making a serious dent in his finances by quitting, the idea doesn't go by him very well. From that point on, the book is an action packed adventure. This is one of those books that you can read over and over again and never grow tired of. I enjoyed how the book kept going from one problem to the next. I think that is what makes you keep reading. There are also two more books in this series. I can't wait to read them. If you have not read this book I highly encourage you to do so.

Summary: Just plain and simple fun
Review: Ben Holiday, a successful lawyer and recent widower purchases a magic kingdom out of an exclusive catalog for a million dollars.

A great fantasy done by one of the best. A fun and action packed adventure that is refreshingly unpretentious. What makes this work is that the book never tries to be more than what it is. There is no deep rooted symbolism or abstract concepts to be found here. Just a cast of great semi-quirky caracters in a book with a unique charm. Those who like their fantasy in an epic scale look elsewhere. All others enjoy!

Summary: My wife's first SF/Fantasy book
Review: Terry Brooks has a very charming writing style, totally disarming. You could notice that evenin his first Shanarra book; even while the story was a 100% rip-off of Tolkien.
I bought a used copy to read on the plane over the Atlantic; it served its purpose of providing good, sometimes clever, well written entertainment. My wife then read it - the first book of this genre she has ever read.
The story hoovers between science fiction and fantasy. A lawyer buys a magic kingdom. The kingdom is dying, and just a few faithful servants to the throne try to save it. The lawyer finds out that they seller has tried to cheat him, but instead of running he sets out to do his kingly duties.

Summary: Different from the rest
Review: I am an avid reader of fantasy so I thought I had already read any possible plot that an author could come up with. Yet with this book Terry Brooks has demonstrated the depth and scope of fantasy and has reminded me me once again why I originally gave myself into the pleasurable quicksand world of fantasy literature.

The plot is very meaningful. It would be extremely difficult to find anybody who has not at some point or other wished to just escape into a magic kingdom of his own and live a life of idyll and glory without any of our modern problems and stress. Brooks plays on this yearning to show the sometimes hilarious, sometimes scary consequences of such a wish. At the end though, what with the happy ending, such a yearning in the reader would just be strengthened, leaving a bittersweet aftertaste.

Summary: Different than the normal High Fantasy
Review: Ben Holiday, a long-time lawyer, who recently lost his wife Annie, finds an odd advertisement in the Wishbook Catalogue. The ad stated that a magical land, Landover, is for sale for one million dollars. He decided that this would be perfect because it would allow him to forget his sorrow. Thus begins his adventure and his ascension to the throne of Landover. In Landover, he must overcome demons, dragons, witches, as well as human obsticles. This was a fairly enjoyable book. It lacked the usual complexity of other fantasy novels, but had a very interesting twist to the story line. The author writes with a sense of humor. He also adds love into the mix. I would recommend this book for a short quick novel to pass some free time.

Summary: Admittedly Sappy...
Review: But still a very entertaining read, as seems to be the standard of any Terry Brooks novel.

Continuing his tradition of taking the blandest of plots and making it one of the most interesting books you'll ever read, he uses the idea of a 20th-century lawyer escaping into a world of run-of-the-mill, fairy tale fantasy, and keeps the reader turning the pages the whole way through. In my case, after reading his Shannara novels, I didn't expect any amazing emotional insights to be granted to me in the course of the reading, or the deepest of characters or the most ingenious conflicts or a world in which I could see myself making a decent living. There are plenty of books and series that I could (and have) read if I were looking for something of that caliber. Brooks writes solely to entertain, and he succeeded with this book.

Summary: Weak and rushed
Review: I'd seen this book around, thought about getting it, and finally did. I love fantasy and thought because Brooks was a best-seller and all that, that this would be a delightful book. Boy was I wrong. Okay, it's a very neat idea, and the plot was tight, but that's about where my compliments end. There's virtually NO character development. I didn't care in the least about Holiday. I could not relate to him, or to any of the characters. I could not get into Holiday's mind. I didn't feel welcome. It felt like the story was rushed and happened way too quickly and easily. There were no guts to this story; it's superficial. It was silly--not in a good way--trite, and paper thin.

If you want to read a story about a real-world person entering a land of fantasy and having adventures there, read "The Woods Out Back" by RA Salvatore! THAT book is absolutely fabulous! It's witty, well constructed, believable, honest, meaningful, engaging--everything that "Magic Kingdom..." isn't. I heartily recommend it instead!

Summary: Hmmm......
Review: This looked like my type of book. I mean really it did. But it wasn't. It was one of the most boring books I've ever read. The only character I actually liked was the dragon. I don't think I've ever read a more predicting book. It's a shame too, because this is the first Terry Brooks book I have read. I'm hesitating to read anymore of his books. Although my friends keep telling me to read the Shannara series, so I might give them a try. If you're looking for a fantasy book and this catches your eye, just look over it. Believe me, it's not worth your time.

Summary: Magic Kingdom For Sale-Sold! Amber Gilchrist
Review: Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold! By Terry Brooks is an amazing book.
Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold! is about a lawyer, Ben Holiday, wanting a challenge, wanting excitement. What started this wanting was his wife dying in a car crash two months pregnant with their first child. He isolated himself from social events, drinking more, and just going from work to home every day. Than one cold day he was getting the mail and saw a magazine that his wife used to look at all the time. While looking through the Rosen's magazine that night while drinking his favorite drink found an ad selling a magical kingdom with dragons and damsels, knights and knaves. After talking with his friend Miles ( who thinks it's a fake ) about the ad decided to go to New York to meet the mysterious seller of the kingdom ( who is Meeks ). After he met with Meeks, Ben has a week to decide if he wants to waste one million dollars on a fairy tale kingdom that might not even be real. When Ben decides to go Miles and himself thinks he's going crazy. Then Meeks gives Ben special directions to get to the magic kingdom ( Landover ). As
Ben makes his way through the tunnel to Landover he gets chased by a giant black demon. When gets into Landover he stumbles onto a dragon that tosses him with one breath. Then he finds his guide ( Questor ) to the castle Sterling Silver, there he meets the rest of his subjects, Abernathy the once human now a dog squire and the kobolds. The kingdom's magic is failing from the lack of king so on Ben's journey to prove to every one else he's not like the others that tried and left he meets Willow who is half water sprite, half wood nymph, summons the Paladin and meets up with the most feared witch, Nightshade.
If you like adventure and mythical creatures I would recommend this book. This book has wonderful imagery and it just takes you away. After you read this book you should read the rest of the series, The Black Unicorn, Wizard At Large, The Tangle Box and Witch's brew.
