Summary: A breath of fresh air.
Review: If you're a woman in want of an intertesting read, this book is for you. I was skeptical at first, thinking this would be yet another book on "How to land the perfect man" wrapped up in a fancy package. But, in a refreshingly honest and down-to-earth approach, Helen Fielding has offered the contemporary woman an amusing and insightful look at being single when the rules keep changing. This book is not just for the single woman, but for everyone. For those that remember what the single life was like with envy or with releif, they will find something to laugh at or even remember with a sigh. It is delightful and a fast read.

  Summary: Funny English-woman an oxymoron?
Review: Bridget Jones is a hoot! I'm not entirely sure what the point of the whole book is besides one young woman's entirely frustrating self-esteem problem, but it is laugh out loud funny. She's so naive, so adorable, and so incredibly un-smart ("stupid" sounds way too harsh). I genuinely like Bridget, and I can't help but root for her, even though she works very hard at getting herself in ridiculous situations. I enjoy reading about slice-of-life modern London (I think it could be called that...? "BlindDate" and "Friends" are talked about quite often anyway) and this is a good, quick read. Oddly enough, at some points did think I was reading one of the Spice Girls' auto-biography, with many testaments to girl-power and a pervasive ode to pals/mates/friends. To be honest, if this book became a movie (as I hear it will soon be), I'd definitely have one of the Spice Girls as a character (maybe Shazz?), Sandi from "As Times Goes By" as Bridget, and maybe Patsy Kensit as the jellyfish vamp Rebecca. Just ideas. See for yourself, after just a few pages, you'll have the perfect picture in your mind of who Bridget is. A very funny, compulsive, odd young (?) lady.

  Summary: V.v.excellent!
Review: LOVED it! Haven't laughed so hard reading a book in a long time! A must-read for anyone woman over 25 and single... or even if you're not single... or not over 25... or not a woman... There's so much arguing over who's borrowing the book next!

Summary: Compares to Adrian Mole- Only better
Review: Unputdownable. A great book to make you feel your life isn't so bad. While reading I just couldn't stop laughing. Every woman should own a copy (and make all her friends buy it too)!

Summary: Did I read a different book?
Review: I thoroughly was bored by this book. There was little insight involved in constructing this narrative. I felt like i was reading someone's diary who was too obsessed with the typical, mundane conception of what it is to be a woman. If you need to reassure yourself that you have the same neuorses as other women then go ahead pick this book up, but if you are a woman who doesnt define yourself by a physical description nor by what society and magazines dictate then DONT BOTHER.

  Summary: Enjoyable
Review: Our book group picked this book to read. It was a fun summer read. I haven't been single for so long, it makes me think, "Is this really how it is or was?", pretty "bizarre". I liked the ending.

  Summary: Excellent!
Review: My friend from England recommended this book over a year ago and it wasn't until two weeks ago that I picked it up. I only regret not reading it sooner. It's the kind of book you'll pick up in the middle of the night to read quietly in bed, then laugh so hard you'll shake the bed and wake up your boyfriend. I just ordered the sequel and had it overnighted to me. I can't wait to read what happens next. Definitely buy this book...you won't be disappointed!

  Summary: Wow!
Review: This book is just great! It's about Bridget Jones life and let me tell you, she has a life. To her it might not be funny but for us to read. I liked the person she was, not perfect but not bad. Everything in her life is not funny, like the problems she has: finding a guy, being a bad cook.... I'm not going to tell you more about the content, it's up to you to read it and I don't think you're going to find the ending bad.

  Summary: i now regret...
Review: being nasty to all those free-wheeling, fun loving singletons! as a smug married, i never thought that seeing myself through another point of view would be so damn frank, and endlessly touching. bridget, with her 30 ish, lonely, excessively dieting self is a woman of her own, with a line of vision comparable to pretty much anyone. i loved this book, and will, in the future buy anything related to ms jones, and wont be so smug...
