Rating: Summary: BORING Review: What I do not understand is how people can like this book! It is really boring and I don't really like or understand that Jack guy. I think I would've given this book a better grade if it hadn't started out sooooo slow. Really if you don't have this book don't bother getting it unless you want to be confused the first 5 chapters and bored most the rest. It's just not worth it.
Rating: Summary: Lord of the Flies Review: Jessica Grade 10 Weir High School October 4, 1999 Lord of the Flies A group of young boys get plane crashed on an Island. Two boys in the plane crash, Ralph and "Piggy", meet in the jungle on the island. They become acquaintances and decide to gather the boys on the island by blowing into a conch shell they found near the water. The boys meet together and form a survival group where Ralph is the leader. In the beginning they work together using there skills to survive. A group of choirboys that were also in the group, became the hunters. The rest of the boys gathered foods and kept a fire going in hope for rescue. The "bigguns" as they were called in the book, are the heads of the groups. The "littleuns" play and help out as well as they can. The "littuns" imagination takes flight and they have bad dreams. They all believe that there Is a big monster that in habits the island and will come and eat them. Later on the bigguns go out in search for this monster and find a "big winged creature". The boys groups start to break up. The bigguns of the choir can't stand the leader ship of Ralph and decided to form their own "Tribe" consisting of hunting and playing around. . The story goes on with the two groups of boys fighting and trying to stay alive against each other. The book is very good and needs complete concentration and an opened mind to understand.
Rating: Summary: OK... Review: I didn't paticularly enjoy Lord of the Flies, but I must admit, it was fairly interesting... Lord of the Flies is a novel about a bunch of young boys deserted on an island with no adults or the presence of society, and all the complications that go with that. The whole book is a fight between right and wrong, order and chaos, and intellect and instinct-- Golding was trying to show just how much evil people have hidden inside covered by society, or in other words, that the only reason we ALL aren't savages is because society is always telling us we shouldn't be... A very interesting thought, one that I do in a way stand behind, but the actual PLOT and STORY of Lord of the Flies disappointed me, so I don't believe you should take the time to read the entire book; just maybe the afterword written by Golding.
Rating: Summary: SOUTH LYON RULES Review: I really don't get how people can say that this is the worst book that they have ever read? At first I was completetly lost because I had no idea about anything about the book, but once I got the idea of it I was thoroughly interested. It portrays a side of human nature that I never thought of, but now can stop thinking of. I beieve that this may happen if the right opportunity were presented and the right people involved, yet I think that the chance would be one in a million. The quote that really awed me was "...a stick sharped at both ends..." At first I was bewildered to think what it could mean, but once I realized I was both horrified and intriuged by it. It was an interesting, yet somewhat grotsque book that anyone who likes unusual books and adventure would enjoy... GO SOUTH LYON LIONS!!!!
Rating: Summary: Hmmmm........ Review: A terrifying variation on the traditional boys' adventure story. The book give insight on the duality of human nature - the divide between order and chaos, intellect and instinct, structure and savagery. But however chillingly frigtening Golding's depiction of the dark side of human nature doesnt come across as shocking due to his masterful use of symbolism and foreshadowing. While there's no promise that it'll be enjoable for some readers, it's guaranteed to be unforgettable, which is why i guess, it remains a cult favourite.
Rating: Summary: Excitement and intellect weaved into one Review: This book was as exciting as it was clever. This story of humanity without law and order is the prediction of one William Golding on what would truly happen to unparented kids. This story however, is not only for teens but adults too. The never-endng symbolism makes endless refrences to the fruedian thoeries and the animal inside everyone. This classic book explores the events of a group of boys trapped on an island from a plane crash. The story is not only of the struggle to survive in nature but to survive eachother. Even if you have seen the movie, this book will impress you in many way that will make you glad that your read this book.
Rating: Summary: "KILL THE PIG, SLIT HER THROAT, SPILL HER BLOOD!" Review: Lord of the Flies...a classic tale of dozens of marooned boys on a deserted island. First the power is bestowed on Ralph. Then it turns ugly...dooo doooo dooooooo.....
Rating: Summary: YUCK Review: All I have to say about this book is that it is disscusting, it is most not for little children
Rating: Summary: really depressing, but intelligent Review: I don't know how somebody could live with themselves if they believe the message of this book. Lord of the Flies is brilliantly written and chocked full of symbolism. Hell, its probably really worth reading too, but certianly not for entertainment. Goldings ultimate message at the end of the book is that the human race is hopeless and detructive and that civilazation means nothing and thats simply not true. mabye i'm a wimp but i like to read uplifting things that make you feel good. Dickens for example. Anyway, the books are depressing especially if you like to look for the good in people. I couldn't decide weather this deserved 1 or 5 stars so i gave it three.
Rating: Summary: Must reading for young people Review: I am friendly with a judge who sits on criminal cases. When a young defendant comes into his court, this judge often requires that this book be read as a condition of the sentence. There is much symbolism in this book, such as the grinning sow's head (the Lord of the Flies), and the corpse of the parachutist. However, even if the symbolism is not clear, the horrors of people left to their own devices, without authority figures to guide them, is a potent theme of this book. Reason and civilized behavior, despite the best efforts of the lead characters Ralph and Piggy, steadily dissolve into savagry. The judge says that he has been moved and impressed by the essays that some of the young people have handed in to him after they read this book. I hope that young people, who may be tempted to follow the insensitive behavior of peers, may be affected by this book and follow the course of decent and civilized deportment.
