Summary: Could not put it down!
Review: This is only the second Ann Rule book I have read. I could not put this book down. I had not heard about this murder since I live on the East Coast. It was riveting to read about a woman who was and probably still is delusional. It is actually sad. My heart goes out to Liysa's two sons. Liysa did not help herself at all with her own defense and was lucky she made a plea.

Summary: I just don't like this author....
Review: ...which is a shame because she seems to be so nice on her web site. The characters do not seem to have any depth in any of her books, and her writing style is easy to read but does not offer complex details about the people involved with the story. You never really feel like you were there seeing all the action unfold like you do with true crime authors Thomas Thompson and Jack Olson. I was disappointed again with this overly simplistic story that should have been told like a mystery but was not.

Summary: TRUTH IS MORE EXAGGERATED THAN FICTION
Review: This story would not stand up as fiction as the reader would be turned off due to exaggeration to the extreme. Facts are shown that the main character, Liysa, is a money grubbing schemer who is never satisfied about anything and "more" is not enough. She always blames everyone but herself and uses her good looks and talent to create waves of good fortune...for a time only. This is a story of extremes and greed and I was enthralled through the entire book. Chris, the husband, was a good guy; his wife Liysa had horns growing out of her head she was so evil. This book tells you why she is evil....in detail.

Summary: RULE'S RESEARCH ILLUMINATES A COMPLEX, PERPLEXING CASE
Review: Once again, Ann Rule's diligent research enables her to provide the reader with unplumbed, in-depth background. Told more from this angle than the hard-core crime approach, it builds in "can't put it down" fashion to the killing, arrest, trial and conviction. Rule recognizes that not everyone agrees with the verdict, but I doubt anyone will disagree that this is a tragic, complex, perplexing case. Give it a read and see what YOU think!

Summary: heart full fo lies
Review: I am Liysa Northon's Father and I can tell you that the title of this "book" should be: "Book full of lies!" Ann Rule wrote this "book," without ever contacting a single member of Liysa's family while spending what seems to be an eternity in the telling the entire life stories of the Northons. She wrote this book for the Northons and with the Northons and "Truth" was never an intent. Virtually all of her statements regarding me were incorrect, as was true for many other parts of the "book." When she used documents, she used only those portions of documents which were favorable to her position - which should have been unbiased - and she even went so far as to suggest that the Northon's failure to pass polygraph examinations may have been due to fatigue and high blood pressure. She ignored court documents which failed to support her theses. For example: In the custody hearing for Liysa's youngest child, the Judge accepted as evidence a cassette which Liysa had made of Chris Northon and Dave Story, both Hawaiian Airline pilots. This cassette was of them testing themselves for drugs before they reported to work and it is a court document which was in Ann Rule's possession. Likewise in a report submitted to the judge by the sociologist who researched this same custody issue: "There were at least 16 individuals that reported seeing bruises on Liysa King-Northon that she related had been caused by Chris Northon or had spoken with Liysa King-Northon regarding domestic abuse. In addition, some of the parties had concerns regarding Chris Northon's alcohol consumption or had been witnesses to Chris Northon's marijuana use." In the Judge's ruling in the custody hearing, he said " The court does find many of mother's (Liysa's) allegations to have been proven or to have had sufficient underpinnings that it was reasonable for mother to have believed them. For instance, it is more likely than not that Dave Story used marijuana, that father (Chris) used marijuana: that father used alcohol to excess and that mother was a victim of domestic violence." Ann Rule had this document in her possession because she quoted from it and yet she denied that Liysa was abused. How could Ann Rule omit this sort of documented information? Why did she do it?

Because Liysa's attorney pled her before she could testify, her side of the story has never been told but I plan to write a factual account, one which will be totally documented, unlike this very poor effort.

I suggest that you not waste your money on this book.

Summary: Ann got in a hurry
Review: I love Ann Rule's true stories and highly admire her talent as one of the truly great authors. So when I spotted HEART FULL OF LIES on the shelf, I didn't hesitate to buy it. I wasted no time in getting started with my reading, but I have to admit that I was really sort of disappointed with this story. There seemed to be a lack of continuity with Ann's prose, and I began to get confused about the characters. Then I thought, oh well, what to heck, just keep reading and see what happens. After reading EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE, maybe I expected too much. When I'd finished reading the book, I simply had to think that Ann was in a hurry when she wrote this piece of non-fiction. I haven't given up on Ann though, I'll still be patiently waiting for her next published novel.

Summary: Heart Full of Lies
Review: Ann Rule is the best true crime writer ever. I have read all of her books and loved every one of them. The characters become like people would know personally. I'm glad that she talks for those who can't. Good job Ann.

Summary: Another Sleepless Night
Review: It never fails. When a new Ann Rule book comes out I drag at work the next day, because I can't put it down. I finally finished it at 3:00 a.m.

In the beginning it's hard to imagine that Liysa would be capable of murdering Chris. However, as Rule scrapes away the facade of her character, the outcome of the case becomes entirely believable. It was amazing how Liysa had been able to manipulate the men in her life to get what she wanted, and yet appear as a model wife and mother to her friends and family.

Previous editorials comment on Rule jumping back and forth in time and place. I found this to be a valuable investigative tool, almost following the way the investigators would be thinking. At face value the situation appeared one way, but when the investigators dug deeper they had to look at it again and again.

I didn't notice the size of the font, and with the popularity of Ann Rule I don't believe the publishers would feel it necessary to add to the production costs of the book by "padding" it.

Another great read by Ann Rule.
