Rating: Summary: Not Clancy but OK for a light read Review: First thing to establish is Tom Clancy did not write this book. I don't know why he puts his name on it, but the "Net Force" books are OK if you want something that is easy to read and doesn't make you think too hard. The books are best read in sequence - I made the mistake of buying "Night Moves" and reading that first, before I realised it was a series. I like the parallel stories a lot and the romantic angle between Alex and Toni prevents it all from being military tactics (which I also enjoy a lot). One disappointing thing for me about "Net Force" is the name of the military head "Col. John Howard". Well, I am Australian and "John Howard" is the name of our Prime Minister. Whenever I read the name, I imagine a short, balding little weazel! Maybe Clancy and Steve Perry should check stuff like that out before they name their characters! Conclusion: Good for a light read when you don't want to concentrate too much.
Rating: Summary: Why did i even bother to spend money on this? Review: Having read the first net force, i expected this sequel to be as good as the orginal. Boy was i wrong. It wasn't the shallowly developed cahracters or the meaningless subplot that annoyed me. No, it was the main character. Alex Michales was a goo protagonist in the first netforce, but in the sequel he disolved into an annoying whiner who put his family troubles over the need to netrualize a terrorist threat. I am a fan of tom clancy and I am not criticizing all his works, just this . If you want a good clancy book, buy OpCenter.
Rating: Summary: Hidden Agendas by Tom Clancy Review: Hidden Agendas follows on from the first book where the head of Net Force (Steve Day) was assassinated by terrorists, in steps Alex Michaels to take over the ship with has trusted team of computer experts, Toni Fiorella and Jay Gridley. Without giving to much away, someone was not only able to get their hands on top secret information but is posting it on the net, sending the world into chaos. Michaels and his team are sent on a wild goose chase on the info they are being allowed to gather on the suspect, it seems no-one is safe from these terrorists. I have read both books and find them quick paced and hard to put down. There is Action , suspence, humor and a touch of romance thrown in for good measure. If the first two books are anything to go by, I'm buying the rest and I can't wait for the TV series.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Hmmmm...not quite what I expected. While the plot line provided some excitement and a surprise or two, this just wasn't as satisfying as some of the other series created by Clancy. The near future setting and the use of virtual reality both felt somewhat contrived. I'm not sure how the use of virtual reality scenarios improves the investigative abilities of the forensic computer analysts. I found the passages describing these scenarios to be distracting from the main plot line. Also, while I have no problem with character development, why do we need to have TWO love story subplots? It felt like overkill. Overall, this wasn't a terrible light read, but its far from the best thriller I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: A Disapointing Techno-Thriller Review: I am not as fan of Tom Clancy, and this was in fact the first of his books that I read. It may very well be the last one as well... I actually bought the book (no, not from Amazon) because I was intrigued by the subject - I am a science-fiction fan and an Internet engineer. I was really disapointed about the level of imagination in imagining how Internet will develop. Much of the techno-stuff in the book does not go much further from what we see in this month computer show - actually some marketing presentations in exhibitions might be more fantasy and fun than the material in this book. I wish I could say some good words about plot, characters, suspense - but all is dry and predictible. Being the prisoner of an inter-continental flight I finished the book, but I am not sure I would have done it if I was at home, with my book-shelves choice around. One good joke to remember however: it's 2010 and the road traffic report is followed routinely by the Net traffic report. Funny, though not relevant from a technical point of view.
Rating: Summary: Good Idea, but drawn out Review: I bought the Audio CD version to listen to for a six hour drive. As I was listening, I felt like Clancy was trying to force a novel upon his readers (listeners). The only point that I was really intrigued by the book was on the last CD. It was very hard to keep my intrest through the first part of the novel. The idea of the information that was stolen was a little far fetched, but that was ok b/c it was fiction.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A GOOD BOOK!!!!!!!!!!! Review: i cant beleve some people. this is a good book.. some people said that they have read tom clancy before then start to bad mouth him what is up with that? you should be ashamed of yourselves!!! he has gave you thrills, chills, excitement and adrenaline before. and now instead of saying something like "it wasnt his best", or "it could have been better". you go after him like your a lynch mob or something, jeezzz. you make your own book and see you you go better.if not. give the guy some slack and have some respect for the man!!! becouse he churns out books like there is no tommorrow, why? becouse from demands from people like you. so give him support! not every book can live up anyones expectations.....
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it. Review: I feel that this was, though not Clancy's best, a good book. But it seems to me that if you are not fluent in computer jargin it would take away from the book some.
Rating: Summary: The Shiny Cover is the Best Part!!!! Review: I was dazed and confused by the shiny cover I saw on the discount rack. The shiny cover had Tom Clancy's name; so I threw my dollar down. I understand now why it was on the discount rack. There really wasn't much of a plot. Weight lifters and interoffice romance. Usually, I am happy with my dollar book purchases, but I really couldn't find any reason for this novel.
Rating: Summary: Tommy Boy, I hardly know ye! Review: I was hanging around the Pentagon when Hunt for Red October hit the streets. It was talked about in every gathering, during coffee at every conference, and in every cocktail party into the night. Folks at the Navy Annex and Ballston were wide eyed that someone had the knowledge and audacity to write such a tale. None of us could put it down. The same was true for every other Clancy novel including the hard cover edition of Executive Orders which very nearly cracked my ribs a few times when I went to sleep after reading into the early hours. Then, I'm on a plane with a copy of Hidden Agendas. I sit back, read the first few pages, look at the cover to be sure that my son hadn't substituted one of his Pokemon books. Then, I waded through the rest of it, sad and then angry that one of our most prolific and enjoyable writers would permit his name to be seen in the same neighborhood with such fluffy material. There was no substance there Tommy, no angst, no depth, no real threat. There was only a pair of one-dimensional bad boys and this Net Force gang, most of whom Jack Ryan would have assigned as door guards at the State Department. Give it a rest Tommy. If you don't want to write, then enjoy all that success has brought you. If this Pieczenik fellow is holding you hostage someplace, let us know and we'll rescue you. Otherwise, please, don't sully the great and global stories you've shared with us. Go lay on the beach somewhere and give your own imagination free rein once again.
