Summary: Extremely Hilarious, Great Characters. Non-Stop Reading
Review: I don't know what made me pick up this book, I NEVER read "romance" novels. I think it had to do something with the "secret in the basement" as described on the back cover. I do LOVE mystery & family secrets; however they usually lead to or stem from a murder (in my reading collection). I am GLAD I took the chance. This author made me laugh! It was HARD to put down (I am now reading Crazy For You by Jennifer Crusie- and I read half the book in one night:)

I recommend this book to anyone, no matter what your "normal" reading-genre is. In fact, as soon as I put it down I lent it to a fellow co-worker and she had it read in less than a week. After I read this book I immediately purchased 4 more of her books....and I am sure that I won't stop there. This coming from a die-hard Greg Iles & Anne Rice fan (and many more...) But - truth be told - I also read Linda Goodman:)

So whether you're a fan of romance-reads or just had the urge (you picked up the book because of the provacative title) take a chance and you'll become hooked on her laugh-out-loud sense of humor, interesting characters, and great one-liners :)

Summary: Crashed and Burned
Review: This author is usually very good but this book, which I so looked forward to reading, was awful. Davy's sex appeal and wit came through early on but fizzled fast. His relationship with Tilda was boring, as was the entire story.

As for the secondary characters; there were WAY too many of them. I will say they started out to be fairly interesting, but I became very annoyed very fast with their strangeness and "different" outlook on life. Rather than let the reader accept these people for who they were, with all their quirks, the author must have thought she needed to push the envelope and make them weird so we'd notice them. It wasn't necessary; they were fine as they were.

I especially didn't like how Davy's friend showed up at the door as an elegant, classy and even mysterious man, only to land in the sack with Tilda's sister literally within seconds of meeting her. He ended up being just another base character without intrigue.

Summary: half way through - may not finish
Review: I bought this book thinking it would be a light read to relax with over the summer. In fact, it was just kind of dull. The characters are not engaging.
Other reviewers have said there are too many characters - but I think the characters are just poorly defined. There can be a lot of characters in a book of this genre. Look at Jilly Cooper, for instance - in her big bestsellers like Riders and Polo she has a huge cast of characters, but they aren't confusing because they are each so well-defined and so diverse.
Bottom line, I just found I wasn't interested in Tilda's fate. She didn't come to life in the book for me, so why should I care what happens to her? Same with the others.
I wouldn't say it's the worst book of its kind I've ever read, so I gave it 2 stars rather than one, but I really don't feel compelled to finish it , either.

Summary: Laugh out Loud!!
Review: Jennifer Cruise does it again! She makes me laugh with her witty dialogue and outrageous situations. Its the perfect summer sunshine read or a great way to laugh through a rainy day.

Summary: Faking it
Review: Matilda Goodnight leads a predictably boring life recreating famous works of art on dining room walls for the rich. She supports her mom, sister and niece and therefore cannot afford to pursue her true passion of painting her own original works. However, Tilda's boring existence is turned upside down when she is forced to steal a painting from the home of a wealthy art collector so as not to expose a long time family secret. This is when she meets Davy Dempsey a professional thief who after one brief meeting in a dark closet is sure to turn Tilda's life upside down in more ways than she ever anticipated.

"FAKING IT" is charming and witty with a cast full of off the wall characters that will keep you wanting to read more.

Summary: I'll never think of donuts and muffins the same again
Review: This was the first of Crusie's books I've read and she's definitely got herself a new "regular." I enjoy the way she portrays Tilda's dry wit, and I loved the dialog between Tilda and Davy, especially during their closet encounters. While Tilda and Davy were presumably the main characters, I enjoyed the way Crusie shifts the point of view so that we get to know Gwen, Eve/Louise, Thomas, Simon, Mason, Clea, dear Steve, and especially Nadine (and poor Kyle!). Crusie's own wittiness shows through when Davy's nicknames for Tilda leak over into the dialog syntax, ie, when Davy calls her Vilma, her next piece of dialog is followed by "said Vilma." These little touches combined with a wonderfully convoluted storyline made this my favorite read of the year so far. A real hilarious page turner, especially at the very end.

Summary: Fabulous!
Review: I enjoyed the characters so much!

The secondary characters are just as interesting as Tilda and Davy whose romance is tinged with crime ...

I would really like to see a take off with Nadine's mom and Simon ... now that would be interesting ... plus I have an affection for accents ...

What you get with this book is a lot of humor, romance, and crime ... a spicy mix!

Summary: Can't bring myself to finish it...
Review: This is the first Cruise book I ever picked up and I don't want to finish it. I'm 2/3 of the way done and just don' care what's going to happen. (maybe because I already have an idea)

The whole plot seems farfetched and outrageous (meeting someone in a dark closet and making out with them?!?!?) and as someone else mentioned there are way too make characters which takes away from the main characters because you have to stop and wonder "who the heck is that.." And at the beginning, the dual-personality thing is very confusing; I had no idea who the heck Louise was. And the songs from the jukebox - are they actual songs or made up to fit into the storyline? Also, most of the characters are tennants of the Goodnights...why do they act like family and help out around the building??? Makes no sense to me...

All in all, I don't think I'll pick up another one of her novels.
