Rating: Summary: Don't wait until YOU'RE one hundred to read this book Review: These two women have literally seen it all. They were alive before women could vote, blacks could "breath in white air" and the car was invented. Somehow they went to one of the top ten institutions in the country (Columbia University) and became a doctor and an educator making history along the way. They've survived Jim Crow, The Civil Rights movement, the Black Power Movement, the Million Man and Woman marches, and their father was a former slave. They are indeed the best primary source of infomation about black history. They lived though the racist turmoil of five generations, fought through it, succeeded in spite of it and this book shows future generations how to change it. Well sisters, there is a little sister listening and ready to learn how to get to where you are and have been. This book enables me to carry the torch. Bessie we miss you, keep watch in heaven!

Rating: Summary: Racist Review: This book had a lot of racism in it, & although it was very informational on our american history, Bessie Delany didn't need to be so racist against whites in this book. But i kind of enjoyed it, but it was the best book i've ever read.
Rating: Summary: BAD Review: This book is the worst book EVER. It was so boring I wanted to throw up. I hate the book so much I would rather die, in fact, I think I'll just go do that. This book, is, BAD. I was forced against my will to read it.
Rating: Summary: Like kin folk Review: This is a wonderful narrative by two ladies who could be anyone's great grandmothers or grandaunts. It's an integral, essential part of the American adventure that we are all living through. The photographs are most interesting! The range of colors among 'colored' people can be seen in those old family photos. How many so called 'white' people have relatives or ancestors that look/looked just like them? Come on, America! It's not about them! It's about us!
Rating: Summary: Having Our Say Review: This was a really good book. These two sisters (Sarah and Bessie Delany) brought the history of the past back to us in a very interesting way. They didn't teach hatred but instead they taught forgiveness and they gave a great insight on how people our and how you just have to move past that. They taught how without the essence of God they wouldn't have made it through and that's true. I admire these sisters because they stick together and they remind me of the love I have for my cousin. Although old fashioned they were up to date.
