Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a classic of western philosophy
Review: One of the best introductions to Western Philosophy that I have come across.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: this book is a gem
Review: One of the very few books on any subject, let alone one as complex and as potentially mystifying as this, that is written not just with the intellect but also with the Heart. At last, someone can show us not just the ideas, but also whether they have any objective value or not. We are given a context in which to understand and evaluate the merits of the various philosophers in question. Without doubt, one of the best books written on the subject of western philosophy. If philosophy interests you, then this book is a must-read. It will save you countless hours reading much of the drivel that passes for philosophical literature. This book is a joy to read - it is lucid, short and easy to digest. It de-complicates and de-mystifies philosophy, without depriving you of its essence. In my opinion this book is far, far superior to a book such as say, Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy. Buy this book and read the words of someone who really knows what he's talking about. BTW, I do think this sort of quality - the kind that promotes our common humanity and civilisation - ought to made available at a far lower cost - I am sure that not everyone can afford the exorbitant asking price.
