Summary: Focus on HEALTH instead!
Review:
There must be something about Dr. Atkins' diet since it is so popular. However, I think that we in North America, while chasing the perfect body, forgot about what really matters - the perfect health.

I am a creature that trusts everybody, but not without a dose of skepticism. Therefore I always make a point of trying new approaches on my own before expressing any opinion. I went trough Dr. Atkins' two weeks Induction Diet and I quickly realized that this certainly is NOT the kind of nourishment that nature designed for me. How can you eat stake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and keep smiling? Gary Null's juicing made more sense to me...

However, the MOST sense, to me makes Dr. Tombak in his book "Can We Live 150 Years?" His approach is absolutely non-commercial. Using simple language he talks abut all aspect of health and longevity. The interesting thing is that once I started following his guidelines I lost 8 pounds this month without ever focusing on losing weight. Enjoy your food, eat most of the foods you like, just chew them well, follow some simple food combination guidelines, and DON'T LET YOUR STOMACH DIRECT YOUR ACTIONS! As Dr. Tombak advises: "Eat to live instead of living to eat!" But of course that is not all. It turns out that diet is only one of a few causes of obesity for many people. How about your spine? Maybe your soft mattress causes some of your problems? How about internal cleaning of your body? - This is where I started. It is probably the best way to start any changes in your dietary habits. I have no cravings for coffee, alcohol or any of the junk foods, that I used to have even while following Garry Null's approach. Mr. Tombak provides a wide array of body cleansing methods. Summary: This book got me to take the plunge into Induction!
Review: After 2 months of studying low-carb diets, I picked up this book and read it cover to cover. It motivated me to finally follow the Atkins way of eating to the letter and commit to the Induction phase of Atkins. I highlighted passages and bookmarked the menu section, which I read everynight during my two weeks on Induction. I was able to stick with the program while living in a house with two other adults who eat an extremely high-carb diet. The book helped to understand the program throughly, so I could explain my new way of eating to others. I lost 10 pounds during the two weeks, and I am now in the On-going Weight Loss phase. Atkins is now my way of eating for the rest of my life!

Summary: You only need one Atkins book
Review: Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution contained far more relevant information than The Atkins Essentials. Frankly put, if you already have one of the Atkins books, don't waste your money and buy more. All you need is one!

Summary: This book got me to take the plunge into Induction!
Review: For someone who needs an overview of the Atkins low-carb approach, this book is excellent. Those who have already read Atkins' earlier books (I have, and have lost 56 pounds, and am so far maintaining my weight loss) this book contains valuable new information not found in any of Atkins' earlier works. This includes a practical list of the number of individual pieces of various nuts that, taken together, approximate a standard serving of 1 ounce (28 gram). A valuable bibliography of recent biomedical studies (covering late 2002 and most of 2003, most of which have not been conducted in association with the Atkins Center, that support the Atkins approach to low-carb dieting (weight loss and maintenance of normal weight thereafter), is also listed.

Summary: Great way of eating for overeaters
Review: I love to eat. So much so that I would lose weight on low calorie diets at Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers but then regain it because of the small portions. I hated that I had to starve. Entering my 30's I could no longer lose weight on low cal but retained a 34 inch waist. I found Atkins even though I thought it was insane I tried it and lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks. After that the weight loss slowed but that is because I was adjusting to my ocassional binges. I have now been on the lifestyle for one year and I am down to 125 pounds at 5'8 . Overall I lost 60 pounds in one year. I did it slowly because I refuse to crash diet and yo yo again. Try it and study it and take your time.No more starving for me!! My skinny girlfriends are jealous now because I did not have to starve and the real me is lovely and eats like person.

Summary: the way to low carb dieting
Review: I was looking to shed about twenty pounds in a month or so, so I picked this up. It really helped me to understand the essentials of low carb dieting and it really did help me jump start my weight loss. It's a hard program to follow, but I found it does work, though I don't think I'll stay on it indefinitely. I received this book for my birthday along with this amazing new beverage as an alternative to coffee. Made from 100% soy that's organic, its absolutely delicious! Summary: A rapid weight loss version of Atkins.
Review: This new book, the first since the late Dr. Atkins passed on, offers a quick start rapid weight loss program using the Atkins program.I like the fact that this book also answers so many of the popular questions Atkins and would be Atkins users always ask me when I tell them that I am on Atkins. Now all I have to do is refer them to this book. Atkins is the most successful and popular diet prgram ever - only thing is that you get to eat so good and feel so great that it's hard to beleive that you are actually on a diet plan!Atins is the best and Dr. Atkins, rest in peace and thank you for sharing this revolutionary program with the rest of us.

Summary: The Atkins Essentials: by Atkins
Review: To answer some of the other reviewer critics, I say that no diet
regimen is complete without a program of exercise to aid in
optimal metabolism.

The Atkins Low Carb regimen is sound science because the author
very carefully points out the food groups highest in carbohydrates. Such foods as pastas, breads, cakes, bagels
and most wheat products are high in the carbohydrate count.
Fresh fruits and veggies are much lower. In my own experience,
I lost 25 pounds permanently by controlling the carbs and doing
nothing else. My regimen has included exercise for most of
my life. Atkins is not saying that we should eliminate all carbs.
He calls for a reduction in the carbohydrate intake.
A strength of this work is that it provides model menus for
emulation by dieters. Besides sensible dieting, it is prudent
to eat earlier in the day so that the food is digested prior
to bedtime. Meals at bedtime tend to aggravate the classic
middle-age conditions; such as, IBS, Crohns disease and many
other gastrointestinal conditions too numerous to list here.

This work is still an excellent value for anyone serious about
weight control via sensible dieting routines.

Summary: Why follow Dr. Fatkins? The Dead & Obese WeightLoss Guru
Review: Why model yourself after failure? Dr. Atkins is dead. At only 72. And he suffered clinical death from cardiac arrest a year before he died. Autopsy showed he had suffered a heart attack, congestive heart failure and hypertension. As if this wasn't bad enough, Dr. Atkins was morbidly obese at his death! 258 pounds!!
