Rating:  Summary: off to the book exchange Review: Dr.Dean espouses many of his own unverifed claims (black incarceration rate among others) with highly questionable data while bashing others that he tends to disagree with. While it is at times an entertaining read his own agenda comes through not based on science, but of his own opinion of things. Look elsewhere to spend your hard earned dollar.

Obviously the book was written for us (the consumers) to buy and read, regardless of our opinion of the content. Regarding the content, I will have to rate this with three stars. The back cover makes promises to the reader about health advice and practical steps one can take to be healthier and less stressed. However, the only thing the author seems to contribute to the volume is his negative opinion on everyone else whom he doesn't agree with.As far as recomendations, I would recomend this as a read for entertainment, and not for serious health information. So, if you are looking for something tangable to go away with, look elsewhere.

Rating:  Summary: Don't believe the hype. You can drink coffee. Review: I've had this audiobook for a couple of years now, and when I sought the printed version -- the tape is abridged -- I was shocked to see only two reviews here, both of them negative. Yes, Dr Edell shoots down other theories, but that's the point of the book. That is, stop worrying about the cancer-cure of the month. (Broccoli, recently). Take all the fads -- megavitamins, hormone therapy, colon irrigation (geez) -- with a grain of salt. It's okay to drink coffee; caffeine in moderation is not the end of the world. Of course, diet books are pretty much dismissed. Other topics include sex, the 'French Paradox' (rich diets yet long life), a few illicit drugs, exercise, and I'm sure I'm leaving a few things out. So, eat your vegetables, cut down on junk food, don't smoke, and RELAX already. There are no miracle cures in this book. But, I found it refreshing that there are no "7 steps to well-being."
