Rating: Summary: I've read it 3 times... Review: ...and everytime I've received a blessing from it. Each time that I read it, there was a part of the book that really helped me in the phase of life that I was going through. The first time I read it, I was a new Christian and it helped me grow. The second time I picked it up several years later I was a backslider trying to come back to the Lord and the book truly helped me get over my feelings of unworthiness because of my backslidding. I was assured that God's grace would still cover me. The third time I read it was not too long ago, my fiance and I read it through together and it really helped us get a solid foundation to our relationship. It opened the doors of communication for us for many spiritual topics - doors that have remained open since. I recommend it for anyone who is leaning towards becoming a Christian, or to the Christian no matter what phase of life you're at. Buy it, read it, put it on the bookshelf, but never forget about it. Pick it up and read it again!

Rating: Summary: Wonderful, reverent, readable and full of wisdom. Review:
The book is basically a commentary on Romans 9-11, although you wouldn't know it by the style of writing.Touching...would make a nice gift to a non believer or struggling believer. Kevin Newby
Rating: Summary: SUCH WONDERFUL GRACE Review: God died for us all and by His Grace we are saved. This is one of the best books that I've read by Mr. Lucado and is based on the book of Romans. Mr. Lucado is knowledgeable and such an excellent teacher, I try to share most of his books with my friends. In The Grip Of Grace, he reminds us of the extent of God's love towards us. The extent that God will go to, proving his love for us. No psychologist, hypnotherapist, doctor, sweet talker can reach deep down into the pits of our souls and renew us with that sweet and wonderful gift of Grace. This gift that God so willingly offers to this suffering world as we reach out to him burdened with sin. Thank you Mr. Lucado, this book has changed my way of thinking and it will certainly be read by lots of my friends. reviewed by Heather Marshall.
Rating: Summary: Great introduction to God's grace! Review: I am normally not very fond of those books which dissects the great truth of Bible into story telling and 1-2-3 steps to heaven checklist. I prefer Christian books which provoke people to think and to reflect deeper about the reality of the biblical faith, like those works from Philips Yancey and C.S. Lewis. This one is an exception. I have never read any book by Max Lucado before. But I definitely will read more after finishing this book. The way he takes the book of Romans and introduces this most profound book about truth to people thru engaging story-telling is simply amazing. I would call this book the modern day introduction to God's grace. Highly recommended, especially good for explaining God's love and salvation plan to people who haven't yet trusted their lifes to Jesus Christ. You would also want to read Philips Yancey's What's So Amazing About Grace after you are done with this one to get a better understanding about God's grace and how to apply it on this fallen planet.
Rating: Summary: Put down the rock and take My hand! Review: I have been a Christian over thirty years; but in recent months, I have really struggled with my Christianity. Occasionally, I catch myself stacking rocks as the third brother in "The Parable of the River;" and I need a reminder of God's unfathomable love. In the Grip of Grace is that type of reminder. Emotionally gripping, Lucado's easy-flowing style guides the reader through the best and thankfully, most entertaining commentary on the book of Romans I have ever read. The introduction to the endearing Billie Jack was worth the price of the book! In the Grip of Grace is the literary equivalent of hot tea on a cold day; and I would definitely recommend it to both Christians and non-Christians.
Rating: Summary: Changed my life... Review: I have been a church goer my whole life and just went with the flow, never really in touch with God...until I read this book. I read it, and it turned me right around. This book will make you embrace the grace of an awesome God. If your life is off track this book will show you what is being offered to you, and if you've already accepted your forgiveness, this book will make you smile when you think of what an awesome God you serve. I love this book because it shows me how much God truly loves me and it sparked me into reading my bible daily and leading a different life. I love the joy that this book portrays that we Christians need to remember and embrace daily.
Rating: Summary: Helped me in many ways... Review: I was drifting from the church. I had (and continue to have) a different perspective on the church from certain issues. I was taking a "don't ask, don't tell" approach to homosexuality, basically saying, what they want to do is between them and God, and it's not the role of man to place judgment on them for that. And certainly not the role of man (or church) to LEGISLATE morality. But, before I get someone ripping my head off for that opinion, you can imagine that it isn't popular in the church.
When I read this book, I saw so many people in the Church in the role of the second brother in the parable of the river. The Fault-Finding Judgmentalist. And at that point I was instantly hooked into this book. I felt like this was someone who saw things from my perspective, whether he agreed with me or not. He could at least see what I was thinking, of this much I was assured. He doesn't mention any of those controversial topics explicitly, but I feel like the interpretation is valid.
Simply put, I came away feeling a greater love and appreciation for God, and feeling thankful for His grace that has saved me. I'm still more far from the Church than I would prefer. It will take awhile for me to find my way completely back. But guided by my re-growing faith, and books like this, I won't be gone forever.
Rating: Summary: Feel good stuff, but not a lot of substance Review: Lucado has a way of communicating in such a way that you feel the love of God, and the forgiveness God offers. If you need to spend some time trying to get in touch with God's mercy and love, and you want a simple read, then this is the book for you. However, if you're looking for something that has a little more substance, then I would suggest a couple of titles by Jerry Bridges - Transforming Grace or the Discipline of Grace. Both of these cover the same topics that Lucado covers but with a more thorough exposition of the biblical text, and a more lasting and thorough coverage of what can be a somewhat controversial, or easily misunderstood subject. Don't get me wrong, Lucado is a great storyteller - he has a talent for communicating the emotion of God - but his books don't do much more than that.
