Rating: Summary: D-U-D (i hated it) Review: OK, this book STINKS so please, don't read it. for action and adventure, READ SOMETHING ELSE! thank you.
Rating: Summary: its ok... Review: In this book, Koly, a thirteen year old indian girl finds herself struggling to keep up with her life. I don't want to get into it, but I really didn't think highly of it. If you want adventure, suspense, romance and magic- or even just one of those, I wouldn't recommend this book. Try Iain Lawrence's THE WRECKERS, THE SMUGGLERS, or THE BUCCANEERS!
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: This book wasn't my favorite, but good enough for five stars. Homeless Bird had a lot of detail about life in India for different genders, and what people did each day as part of their life. The only part I didn't like was Sass. She was so mean! Anyway, I do reccomend this book. It's easy, and a good read.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: My teacher gave me this book to read since I am from India myself and I liked this book a lot. It shows the ancient practices of India, how girls were treated. koly is a very good example and I recommend this book for it's cultural value. I did feel a bit like crying at the end, but because of the happy changes for Koly. GET THIS BOOK NOW!
Rating: Summary: Homeless Bird Review: Homeless Bird was a lonestar book, so I had to read it. It looked BORING to me, but what was inside made me almost cry! This girl has the exact feelings I would! She is unwillingly married off, abandoned, finds friends and a paying talent, and she survives! This is an amazing book! I guess you really can't judge a book by it's cover!
Rating: Summary: a book club selection Review: My grandmother bought this book for herself and then gave it to me. I liked it so much that I selected it for my book club. it is a touching and thought-provoking story about a girl and a culture that were unfamiliar to me. I hope to read more by this author.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book ever! Review: I loved this book I wish there was another one I love it even with 2 deaths It is feeled with sadness that made me cry out load And the ending could have been batter But I lved it so mush I think that everone should read this book!
Rating: Summary: Homeless Bird: An exceptional book Review: Be careful on judging this book by its cover because the cover doesn't describe the true nature of this book. 17-year-old Koly is set up for a marriage upon a boy with the flu and with wicked parents. He husband is Hari. Her Sass which is Hari's mother always scolds her for whatever she does. When Hari dies and his sister Chandra gets married, her Sass and her Sassur (Hari's father) looses hope for a better life. One day, Koly's Sassur dies after so much stress from teaching his students at a nearby school. Later on, Sass gets a letter from her younger brother out in Delhi that invited them to take care of his children. Then a mysterious wind-up starts after when Sass left Koly in an un-familiar city where widows would roam around. Koly later on meets boy named raji which later on made a relationship. This book is an exceptional book. Defintly WORTH BUYING. All of my peers loved it and so will you. You can really get your eyes glued into this book! I defintly give this book five stars.
Rating: Summary: Not boring like I thought!!! Review: This book is about a girl around the age of thirteen. In the country she is living at they get married at about the age of thirteen. She gets married to a boy younger than her and has to go and live with his family. When you get married the girls bring with them a dowry, which is pretty much like paying the family to accept you. She finds out that the only reason he married her was because he was very sick and they needed the money to help him. His parents wanted to take him to a sacred river that would supposedly make him better and it was expensive to go there. She goes with him and his Maa and Baap to the river. I think this book is pretty good!
Rating: Summary: homeless bird Review: I liked reading the book "Homeless Bird," by Gloria Whelan, but i didnt like how she portrays arranged marriages. this book is about a teenage girl who gets an arranged marriage. It does not turn out good for her, her mother-in-law treats her very badly and when her husband dies her mother-in-law leaves her in a big city. It shows arranged marriage as being a bad thing, but its not. In alot of arranged marriages the relationship turn out wonderful. in some cases the arranged marriage do not turn out good, but thats also with love marriage.
