Summary: Clancy is always great!
Review: Ok, If you like Clancy's work, not that OP-Center, Powerplays or NetForce stuff, which is merely "OK", and that's saying a lot (mainly because Clancy did not actually write the those books) and if you love the Jack Ryan Books, then please get this book! I won't spoil anything, just read the summary written above by "amazon.com" and it's all you need to know! Just take it from me, you don't know me, but take it from me anyway, buy this book. It's that simple ....later

Summary: Better than Rainbow Six
Review: Now that Jack Ryan has been President for a while, it's hard for Clancy to produce really great stories where we admire Ryan for playing the valiant underdog. Nevertheless, Ryan's role in Clancy's latest book is thankfully more prominent than in Rainbow Six and the result is a great story. I found the plot more believable and engaging than eco-terrorists. In any event, Clancy is still better than anybody else out there.

Summary: Clancy Does it Again
Review: Clancy again proves he's one of the best... Intriguing, great action and excellent hooks throughout.

Summary: Almost as good as it gets
Review: Can't say that I have finished the book yet but it certainly on par with PG or SoAF. Perhaps not yet as captivting as HfRO, but that has always been a tough act to follow. Ryan is always entertaining and should be a write in candidate in November.

Summary: This is gonna be his best to date!!!! There's war in Russia!
Review: I've read the first three chapters, and I can't stop. This has bestseller written all over it. It reminds me of Harry's 'Protect and Defend.' I can't wait to finish this book, and read it again, and again. Thanks for keeping us entertained Mr Clancy.

Summary: Excellent, the excitement builds and doesn't let up!
Review: I found that this was one of Clancy's best. John Clark is up to his usual tricks of the trade and Ryan is up to his ears in politics and intrigue. Definitely a fun read!!

Summary: Tom Clancy Has Done It Again
Review: Clancy has done it again. Another fantastic Jack Ryan adventure. It gets slow at times, but overall, its great! I thought he couldn't top Rainbow Six, but he has been able to do it again.

Summary: Clancy at his best
Review: Ok, ok, it's not exactly The Illiad, but that's why we read these books, right? The Bear and the Dragon is a great ride, and it offers a perspective change: Russia as the good guy. If you like Clancy, you will love this, and if you are looking for literature, go some place else.

Summary: Jack Ryan and Clancy are back in fine form
Review: Clancy's latest, The Bear and the Dragon, is a damned good story. It does take a few hundred pages to set up all the back-story, but that is due to Clancy's meticulous attention to detail. His skills for writing action sequences are still first-rate, and he has the ability to make the reader feel the exhilarating terror that is modern war.

The language is a bit rougher than usual, and some of the sexuality could have been toned down. There is also such a thing as too much attention to detail; the assassination attempt investigation runs too long; Ryan's distaste for the of the Presidency are repeated too often; the inscrutablity the Chinese.

Clancy refers to the Chinese as Klingons several times; perhaps he is referring to the Original Series versions; because they have been much more fleshed out in the three incarnations of Trek since. Perhaps Romulan would have been a better choice for comparision.

But just when the setup starts to get boring, the plot takes one of those famous Clancy twists that make him the best seller that he is. In this case, events transpire that convince the Chinese to make war. They have sorely misunderstood the magnitude of the situation they have created. One hopes the Chinese aren't as politically dense as he paints them to be; else we might find this situation playing out for real someday.

Ryan is almost an Everyman; he may hate the job he has to do, which probably makes him the best kind of man for the Presidency. If he were a real person, our current canididates wouldn't have a chance. Hell, I'd vote for him.
