Rating: Summary: Every young girl will love this book! Review: This was the first 'big kids' book I read as a child, one with chapters! I think I was in third grade, that would have been 1965. I was so surprised when, thirty-somthing years later, the movie came out! I knew it was the best book I had read as a child, but thought it was no longer around. I am very happy to see Harriet is alive and well and still as popular now as she was then! As usual though, the book is always better than the movie. Get your child to read this book, it will turn her into a reader for the rest of her life, and that's a GREAT thing to be!
Rating: Summary: Makes you want to spy on others! Review: I read this book when I was 11 years old and immediately declared it the best book ever. In the 20-odd years since I made that statement, I have read many other books that earned the same honor. But HTS stays in my mind because it wasn't a sappy kids' book; this was a story about a very real girl whom I could relate to.Harriet wasn't the average simpering little girl content to stay at home all day with her Barbie dolls; she was an off-the-beaten path sort who found joy in the unconventional; hence her penchant to spy on people. I laughed aloud as she unabashedly peered through windows and took sharp notes on what she observed. Thanks to her, I took up spying for a brief time after I read this book. Bravo, Harriet!
Rating: Summary: Harriet The Spy Review: This book is classic. I read it several years ago and it's still one of my favorite books. It really got me into writing...after reading it I got my own notebook, too! I've had one ever since. This is really one of the GREATEST pre-teen books out there. It's realistic and WONDERFUL in every way. Everyone should read it...then read it's sequel, The Long Secret, and then Sport.
Rating: Summary: Harriet Remains The Best ! Review: I devoured books as a child, and in the 1960s, I was forever changed by meeting my friend Harriet, the writer-in-training. Thirty Five years later, I still read "Harriet" every year. I also buy it for every child I know! Imitators may come and go, but Harriet and her friends's escapades in the brownstone jungle of New York City remain light years ahead of many other children's books. Characters are alive with descrition, and more than anything, they remain real, including their flaws. I also recommend Harriet's summer adventures in "The Long Secret". There simply is no competition for Harriet The Spy!
Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: I really like this book! I actually saw the movie first, but I still love the book. It tells the tale of something that could really happen in a sith grader's (like me) life. I even tried to spy and am still keeping a notebook. Harriet inspired me a lot because I love writing too. I recomend this book to anyone!
Rating: Summary: A Fav from my Childhood Review: This is one of the few books I completely and clearly remember from my childhood. I grew up in apartments so I think I really got into the spying on your neighbors bit...however, none of my neighbors were as exciting as Harriet's! I also liked to journal. I think Harriet is a character the average kid can relate to--she's not Miss Popular nor is she at the bottom of the social heap either. She has not-so conventional people that love her and she learns a valuable lesson. Go out and get this book for any pre-teen girl or for yourself!
Rating: Summary: NOT a kid's book Review: This is a book ostensibly written for kids, but it's really the kind of book that adults read and love and only THINK that kids like. I read it as a child and thought that the characters were uniformly unlikeable (except for Ole Golly, my hero) and the situations unpleasant. As an adult, I enjoyed it, but I'm ready now for more spicy foods. This is like a very hot Bloody Mary, and as a child I was more interested in pina coladas. Does that make sense?
Rating: Summary: Hattie loves Harriet the Spy Review: Harriet the Spy is a great book. It tells you not to write mean things about people if you don't want them to find out. It is one of the best books I've ever read. Harriet likes writing in a notebook and because of that I have started writing in my own notebook. I won't write mean things about my friends, the book has taught me that. Harriet has taught me how to win back friends and how to solve problems. I recommend that everyone should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Harriet the Spy Uncovered Review: This book is about an 11 year old spy. She keeps a notebook that says the truth and something about everybody. When her friends read the notebook, it's all down hill for Harriet. Even her best friend Sport hates her. I really liked this book because it showed different personalities of different people and that you should always be honest. Sometimes you can "white lie" to make people feel better. Rating: Summary: Cool and cute Review: This book is neat. It's an open look through the eyes of a child. At some point in the book, I thought it may be too mature for a child to understand. It asks the questions of how much effort do Harriet's parents put into understanding the child? Will a child reading this book transpose the behaviors of Harriet's parents as theirs?
