Summary: Not just well written, but also extremely informative.
Review: Recommended to me by a Girlfriend of mine, this is by far the best pregnancy book I have read. I wanted to REALLY know what was going to happen and that the way I was feeling and the things that were/are happening to my body were indeed normal. The Girlfriends succeeded in comforting me and providing insight into what is to come. As a first time mother, I did not know there were so many things I should be asking my doctor. The Girlfriends pointed me in the right direction. I have even caught my husband reading the book on several occassions. Thanks to Vicki Iovine and all the Girlfriends out there.

Summary: Good, if you're upper-middle class and irreverant
Review: Entertaining and helpful in doing a reality check on some of the more alarmist books. Definetely only for those with a slightly cynical sense of humor and into hospital births.

Biggest downside is that she's a size 4 woman with a large disposable income. I'd love to see the same material covered, in the same style by someone who much more resembles me and my girlfriends - sizes 12-16 BEFORE conception and working Dilbert style jobs. Perhaps we could convince Scott Adams to spend some time with us to write a "Real Woman's Guide to Pregnancy."

Summary: Highly recomend . . . Awesome
Review: Vicky's book is great. I found that I could relate to most of what she wrote about - with the exception of having size 4 clothes in my closet waiting for me! I received this book as a gift . . . and have since purchased it as a gift for a newly pregnant friend. I'm also reading the next installment - guide to the first year - so far - so good!

Summary: Relax--it's just a pregnancy!
Review: Although this shouldn't be your only reference book, it's the one I used the most. It doesn't scare you with limitless possibilities of what could go wrong, it doesn't subscribe to nazi eating regimes (like "What to Expect....") and it doesn't take itself too seriously. During pregnancy you want a doctor, but you also want a friend. THIS book will be your friend. Loved it!

Summary: One friend worth having
Review: Since pregnancy is such a personal issue, it is an impossible task to wrtite a book on the subject and not offend someone. My husband and I have read numerous Pregnancy books and we both agree that this one is the best. Vicki speaks to us in a direct, friendly manner. She has no hidden agenda, has a great sense of humour and most importantly speaks from experience. This book is a wonderful, down to earth, straight forward guide which I strongly recommend.

Summary: Great first reference for 1st time moms and even return moms
Review: This book is great for that new mom who is just a bit apprehensive about all the changes her body will go through. Vicky Iovine takes you through each change from the humorous side...and does a great job at it. She gives great "straight-up" advise and she tells it like it is. This book does not dive deeply into medical terms or references for potential medical problems. For those kinds of questions, I recommend "What to expect when you're expecting."

Summary: I am not alone in going through this!
Review: A great book for first time mom's (and dad's!) We read it and laughed about how true it was. Her examples of different friends experiencing pregnancy in different ways was great. I could always relate to one of them. It was reassuring to have a candid book that prepared me for the best and more importantly - the worst. It answered all the questions I was too embarrassed to ask my mom or friends. Every pregnant couple should read this book!

Summary: I thought this book was heartwarming & absolutely hilarious.
Review: I am pregnant with my first child, and this book put me at ease immediately. I read other sterile books that scared and intimidated me. Vicki makes you feel like a friend and assures you that, even if you don't measure and count every gram of calcium and protein in everything you eat, you will still have a healthy baby, as long as you are sensible. I think she goes overboard in the fat department. Since she was a size 4 model, to her 5 lbs. is probably traumatic. I've known several women who have maintained normal size arms and legs. I agree with her that all butts seem to grow, though. Overall, this book made me feel comfortable and excited about what is happening to me. I think it's a must as long as it's not the only book you read.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Disappointing! Sometimes funny, but often obnoxious
Review: This book started out funny and I was enjoying it in the beginning, but I found it more iritating the more I read! The author's comments and attitude at times seemed annoying, obnoxious, and sometimes even offensive. Her diatribe was too self-centered, ethnocentric, and flighty for my taste! Don't waste your money! Get a different book, instead.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Enlightening, Real.... MUST be read by expectant moms!
Review: This book is a refreshing alternative to the more typical informational/medical pregnancy books. It tells you what you REALLY want to know...how women feel and what they experience while pregnant. It is extremely informative AND hysterical, and although parts may shock the first time mom...is a MUST to own and read!!
