Summary: Politics and Daily Life in the FBI
Review: This book focuses on two major points: a woman trying to suceed in a man's profession (at that time) and the daily life of a FBI agent. Special Agent Delong obviously had a very interesting career and this book seeks to capture that. But this book also gives insight into the daily politics of life and the FBI--that is, it shows the daily struggle of one person in corporate like world which in this case is the FBI. For anyone interested in the FBI or one agent's view I highly recommend this book. After reading this you will know the sacrifices each FBI agent goes through every day of their career.

Summary: Great story, okay writer
Review: Candice DeLong has a great story to tell, I only wish her editor had been a little tougher on her inclination to be redundant. If I had to hear her refer to her former job as a Psych Nurse one more time I was going to scream. Anyone who had gotten beyond the first couple of chapters knew what her prior history had been, but she underestimates the memory capacity and intelligence of her readers by repeating well worn facts. This is not to discount her accomplishments, she has done many great things with her life and it's good of her to share them with the public, but it's obvious that her first calling wasn't as a writer.

Summary: Interesting & Informative
Review: Candice Delong writes a book that tells it like it is. Being one of the "pioneer" women in the FBI, there were many obstacles that she faced--and she faced all of them, honestly and with dignity. She gives examples of cases that she worked on while "changing the names to protect the innocent."
The last chapter gives you some down-to-earth ways to protect yourself and your family. This book will be recommended to all of my colleagues that want to hear about a successful woman with persistance and determination.

Summary: Enlightening plus....
Review: Read this along with the memoir, Seductive Poison and found both quite eye opening. Although the two women authors, DeLong and Layton of Seducitve Poison were on opposite sides of the barrel, so to speak, both tell a riveting story of life on the inside of an all-consuming organization. DeLong on the side of the law and Layton running from it, then back into its cradle.

Summary: I was disappointed...
Review: In every chapter Ms. DeLong talks about all the evil white males that she is pursuing and working besides. A personality conflict with a boss is turned into a sexist hate campaign by Ms. DeLong. One of the reasons I bought this book was to read about the UNABOM case and instead we find out all she did was watch a bus stop. Then the reader is treated with her lover spats that she had with her FBI lover during her four month stake out of the bus stop.

However, this book does go into the politics of government law enforcement and shows the black and white thinking that most government law enforcement agents have. Ms DeLong was not a model FBI agent and was forced into retirement.

Summary: Great Stuff!!!
Review: Ms. Delong: I heard you on Art Bell last night--- Great stuff! As a prison guard and former psych hospital worker, I agree with your opinions on the death penalty and the nature of many of these criminals. Good luck with your book! Respectfully, J. Zekas, Correctional Officer, High Desert State Prison, Susanville, California..................

Summary: Good story
Review: DeLong tells a good story, one you will not want to miss if you are interested in true crime and the FBI. Of course, she isn't Clarice Starling, but she comes damned close. While her story is not as exciting as Danny " No Heroes" Coulson, she was a woman fighting her way through a bunch of politically incorrect chauvinistic men [which is not to detract from their heroic efforts in the defense of their country]. Right on, DeLong!

Summary: A Really Good Story
Review: The true story of woman entering a male-dominated field 20 years ago. The wonderful story of her personal life and career. I found the entire thing interesting, except I thought the Unabomber search was too drawn out. I really liked how at the end of the book she has a chapter telling women how to protect themselves and their kids from sexual predators. It's good advice.

Summary: You find it hard to put down
Review: Candice Delong, does a wonderful job of relaying her experiences with just the right amount of detail and characterization. She tells us of her most interesting cases and as with all jobs some of her frustrations and most memorable moments.

AS A WOMAN IN A PREVIOUSLY ALL MALE DOMINATED FIELD, she does an excellent job of characterizing some of the fights she had to endure to gain a foothold in this previous bastion of white-male cohorts. Any woman that has breached these lines can recognize some of the difficult situations you face. From trying to be a good-sport, to drawing the line of how much she will tolerate, Candice reveals some of her struggles with trying to break this "pink barrier".

YOU CAN SEE CANDICE HAS A BIT MORE BRAVADO THAN MANY OF US. When I was reading this, I was only too glad, I was the reader and not living some of the situations she faced. It takes a special person to do this type of work and it is clear when she relates her previous work as a psychiatric nurse as well as her FBI work, she has nerves of steel. I would be running in the other direction. I must commend those who do this type of work for protecting the rest of us chickens. Ironic that Candice had difficulty with a flight in small plane. It is interesting how the mind works.

MANY CASES WERE OUTLINED BUT NOT FULLY DETAILED. As this is a book about someones career, the case details are not fully fleshed out. If you are looking for a highly technical book on FBI case development, you won't find it here. For this I was thankful, as I wanted to hear about her life and this book put it in this perspective, from her money problems (which we all have), to her relationship with her son, as well as her frustrations with her love life.

WELL BALANCED is how I would characterize this book. It gives us just enough detail about her philosophy, her day-to-day life and the cases, so we know who Candice Delong is. She doesn't embarass us with in depth details of her personal life to the point it is a tell all. One chapter discusses her moonlighting as a nurse and the relationship she develops with some of her patients. She helps us all who can go out and spend money on a book, to put things in perspective. She comes away with this book as a classy autobiography.

EXCEPTIONAL BOOK I can only hope we see more of Candice Delong. This book was hard to put down once I started.
