Summary: Winstom Groom sells out to the movies
Review: The original Forrest Gump was a wonderful book, written in the tradition of One Flew over the Cukoo's Nest, but Gump and Co. is simply Winston Groom writing a sequel to a popular movie--and completely ignoring his own original work. He tries to capture the feeling that the movie had, but it all just becomes one long, contrived nightmare. It is tragic that such a good book had to be followed by such a horrible sequel. I'm hoping that Mr. Groom returns to his former glory with his next book

Summary: Forrest is back and in a big way!
Review: Winston Groom has done it again! Forrest is back in a sequel that is as witty and funny as the original. Forrest goes broke when the Bubba Gump "srimp" company goes bust and he must find a way to make some money. Forrest is now working as a janitor at Wanda's strip joint when he gets a golden opportunity. He begins to play football for the New Orleans Saints and he is making good money. He sends Jenny money to support little Forrest when he gets a letter he did not want to recieve. Jenny has died and he quits football to see little Forrest. Now Forrest must make money to support his son and try to stay out of trouble. And as we all know with Forrest Gump there is no way he can stay out of trouble. From selling encyclopedias to making a recipie for New Coke, Forrest has many adventures. This will surely be a delight to anyone who reads it I recommend this if your looking for a fun read in the true spirit of Forrest Gump. Review by Matt Crandall

Summary: Not worth 1 star. What a waste of time!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Forrest Gump" as well as seeing the movie. In fact, I still own copies of both. So when I found "Gump & Co." at a local used books store I was excited at the prospect of wrapping myself into the delightful world of Forrest Gump once again. Hey, there is even a review from Kinky Friedman right on the front cover so this must be good! How wrong that turned out to be! Forrest becomes the fall guy for every down turn event of the 80s decade. From New Coke to Iran Contra to the Exxon Valdez to meeting Tom Hanks (wherein Hanks blabs off some "Gumpisms" -- ugh!!!) to accidentally capturing Sadam Hussein. Give me a break! When the author had Forrest & Little Forrest getting tossed into the White Water scandal I finally decided I had had enough and I jumped to the last 2 pages. This was a waste of time. I have no doubt why there isn't a sequel to the Oscar winning movie.

Summary: Are we allowed to say bull crap? That's all this is.
Review: Yeah, I finished it. If I could be very blunt with just two words, it sucks! I'm wondering what happened! Forrest Gump was brilliant. This was flat out retardo talk the whole way through. The ghost of Jenny, OOOHH! Real original, Groom. Lt. Dan, reunited? That was actually ok.

If there was 1 thing I could actually pin point and agree with 100%, it would have to be a kid's reaction to his new creation, New Coke when he said, "EEWW!! This tastes like [...]" Yeah, and it read like it, too! 100 pounds of pure waste of it, along with a real waste of talent. I ain't readin' no more of Winston Groom! If you wanted a best selling sequel, write something that actually sells. Not over 350 pages of pure BS! I at least hope his effort was worth it. What a waste of time. What a shame!

Summary: Mildly Amusing
Review: This book is a sequel to the wildly popular Forrest Gump. I picked this book up because I remember seeing the movie years ago, and I remembered how popular it was. Unfortunately, I forgot that I found the movie more cute than funny. This book is more of the same, but not quite as well done as the original.

The book starts off with Gump, who is working as a barroom janitor after his shrimp business went bust. Before long, he's the fall guy for the season of the New Orleans Ain'ts, and it turns out he's also behind the bad formula for New Coke. From there, his life just keeps going down hill. Here and there, there are a few funny moments, but I found myself annoyed at times when true historical events are degraded by Gump's twisting of the facts to put himself in the picture. Groom frequently writes beyond his personal experience, inventing inaccuracies that are so bad they take away from the larger plot. If he had had enough knowledge to describe the events accurately, the plot would have been more tenable and perhaps more amusing. You can't call this a historical novel, by any stretch of the imagination. But if you liked Forrest Gump, you might like this book, too.

Summary: Horrific
Review: I didn't know that Forrest Gump was a book until my friend told me about the sequal. Well, I didn't think the first book could have differed that greatly from the movie, so I just read the second book. The heavy use of offensive language was definatly a surprise to me, concidering Forrest was looked on as so innocent in the movie. He is mentally handicaped, but i think ill also, because after Jenny dies, he sees her... but never her husband. Forrest is constantly ending up in jail, which, again, is surprising. It made him look totally irresponsible when it came to his son. He and his son had no real relationship. He was constantly around Jenny-- he couldn't keep away. But with little forrest, he barely sees him. Then end seemed thrown together at the last minute. I think Groom should have just skipped this midlife chrisis type-thing, and gone strait to Forrest as a grandfather to little Forrest's children. I sure hope the first book was not like this, because then the innocence he has in the movie is just completely unreal and fictious compared to the book. I would still recomend reading it, its not all bad. Its just much more humourious, and a lot less sentimental.

Summary: Very disappointing
Review: I was not very happy with this book at all. I was thrilled to find that there was a sequel to the first book so I rushed to get this. I couldnt even finish it.

There were a few funny parts in the book, like Forrest and his son starting a hog farm, and Forrest coming up with a great taste for the (if I can remember correctly) horrible tasting "new coke". But other than that Groom took good characters from the first book and ripped them to pieces. I wanted to cry.

Pass this one up.

Summary: The worst!
Review: This book just made me angry. It seemed as if the author took a history book and tried to come up with tie ins.
