Rating: Summary: This went over BIG Review: Thank you for carrying this book. I gave this book to a lady in our organization, who also looks after her Grandchildren. As a added kick I enclosed a actual Photo of that Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge. I have an Aunt who lives in Manhattan, and I visited her a couples times back in the Eighties. On My first trip up I took the Circle Line Cruise around Manhattan; which is how I got the Picture in the first place. As to how went over with the Lady's grandkids? I have a costuction paper thank you from the Oldest Grandchild, because She in the First Grade now.

Rating: Summary: Most memorable book of my childhood Review: The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge is my favorite book from childhood. I spent the beginning of my life in Manhattan, NY right by the Hudson River. This book felt like it had special meaning to me since it was so nearby. But even if you live in California or England or China this book is still fantastic and wonderful and leaves you feeling good about the world and about yourself. Read this book to a kid today.
Rating: Summary: The Little Lighthouse That Could... Review: The publication date says 1988, but I remember this book from my childhood and would recommend it to anyone with children. It is the story of a small red lighthouse that gets overshadowed by the newly built George Washington Bridge and how the lighthouse comes to terms with that.
The lighthouse really exists in NYC and I grew up not far from it. If you drive north on the West Side Highway and you look towards the bottom of the GW Bridge as you approach it, there stands this brave little lighthouse. Bright red, beaming out to the whole world.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book for almost 40 years! Review: There is nothing better than sharing a piece of your childhood with your children. This book, with its sounds and style, has been my favorite since I was two, and now is a favorite of my 4 year old.
Rating: Summary: A Childhood Favorite Review: This classic tale deals with feelings of insignificance and uselessness and has been a favorite of readers young and old for generations as it tells the story of a valuable lighthouse overshadowed by a great and new bridge and, ultimately, forgotten. This children's book inspired the reclamation and restoration of the abandoned and neglected Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse, which today is once again handsome and open for public tours. There are a number of Web sites specific to Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse and the construction of the Bridge for those interested in more information about either. Visiting these sites may serve as an effective way to introduce young readers to the computer and the Internet...During my childhood, I passed by the Lighthouse coming and going to my grandmother's home in Brooklyn. The last time I saw it (as an adult), was several years ago through a telescope atop the World Trade Center.
Rating: Summary: Classic story, childhood favorite Review: This is one of the books that I remember vividly from my early childhood. It came with a 45rpm record that you could read along with, but I've never been able to find a CD or cassette tape to replace it. I look forward to reading it to my daughter, hopefully she will enjoy it as much as I did when I was a kid.
Rating: Summary: A classic children's book. Not to be missed. Review: This is one of the fondest books of my childhood -- along with _Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel_. If you live in the New York/New Jersey area, make sure to take a trip to see the lighthouse. It's still there
Rating: Summary: A NYC legend with universal appeal Review: This was one of my favorite stories as a child. Recently my group at work passed the lighthouse on a boat trip. I was still able to tell the story almost word for word. It illustrates the joy of being useful and helping others. And that there is a role for everyone, big or small, to be able to make a difference. The personality of the little red lighthouse comes through as if it were a friend you'd known and loved forever.
