Rating: Summary: Wait for Next Year Review: Hi there. I have been definitely disappointed by this book. I swayed away from ultimately ordering it due to negative reviews of other readers, but then purchased it on an impulse later. My first inclination was the better one! If you've followed Laura in the news at all, then your knowledge will not be increased by reading this. There is virtually no new material between the covers. Really the only original content is based on interviews with Jenna Welch. I am not at all certain that the author ever interviewed Laura. Virually every, if not all, of her quotes are based on things published in magazines ("Newsweek" type interviews), press releases, and widely-publicized speeches. Aspects such as the President's interaction with alcohol, Laura's career, her relationship with the Bushes, etc. are skimmed over in coverage. The most depth is granted to a description of the Texas Book Festival. I have noted via Amazon.com that there are more biographies of Laura slated for release next year. Let's hope that one of them provides a more three-dimensional perspective on a doubtless interesting woman. Skip it!
Rating: Summary: A great way to get to know Laura! Review: I loved this book!! Since Sept 11th, Laura has been such a comforting person to me, so I grabbed this book right away when I saw it. It's really a wonderful way to get to know Laura. You get all kinds of details--about her childhood, her relationship with George W., and her work--that I've never read anywhere else. The author even interviewed Laura's mom, so you get all kinds of commentary from Laura's own mother!! I also loved the section of pictures of Laura from when she was a baby up to now. I'm a teacher, so I thought the parts about Laura's incredible commitment to education were fabulous. She's just an all-around amazing person. I've been recommending the book to everyone I know!
Rating: Summary: Wait for Next Year Review: I really liked this book. Even though I am more of a Democrat, I have always been intrigued by Laura Bush. This book really helped me to know so much more about her. She is a very interesting woman and I think this book does a good job of telling you all about her.
Rating: Summary: very interesting, informative book Review: I really liked this book. Even though I am more of a Democrat, I have always been intrigued by Laura Bush. Rating: Summary: Warm, inspiring portrait of a woman we can all respect Review: I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in this compassionate tribute to a woman who has quickly become our nation's "mother" and a wonderful role model. Laura Bush has not had a scandalous life but she surely has lived a respectable one. Her wit and charm come through from ancedotes by her mom and the well-done research of Antonia Felix. In addition to the magazine articles done on her, this book provides a more in-depth look at this soft-spoken, down-to-earth woman. I highly recommend it and hope others enjoy it as well.
Rating: Summary: excellent tribute to first lady Review: I'm so glad someone has FINALLY written a biography of Laura Bush. She deserves something this classy and respectful. It's clear that the author has a great admiration for the first lady, but she doesn't let that get in the way of her writing. She presents a very thorough account of Laura's life from her childhood to the present (including how she's dealt personally with the events of Sept 11.) Laura does have a few dark shadows in her past, which the book examines and there are some very funny stories about Laura's meeting with George and their courtship. Anyone who wants to know more about Laura Bush and what motivates her will love this book. I even read somewhere that Laura's mother liked the biography!
Rating: Summary: Very shallow and not worth reading Review: Someday an excellent biography of Laura Bush will be written, but this isn't it. Indeed, this book is a great disappointment. It is shallow and uncritical; a "puff-piece" that could have been written by White House operatives or the Republican National Committee, either of which might have done a better job; short and amateurish; and it contains "filler" material about book festivals and the like that absorbs many of its 200 pages. Having read Julia Reed's June 2001 article in Vogue just before picking up this book, I was astounded by the difference between a well-written, insightful piece of writing and this wasted effort. It is clear that the author merely parroted other writers and provided little that we didn't know already about the lovely and talented Mrs. Bush. Surely Our First Lady deserves better than this. Even "Millie's Book" was a better read.

Rating: Summary: A Great Read! Review: The review from BugBehind was confusing. Antonia Felix clearly outlined the tragic car accident of Laura Bush from 1963. The 17-year-old Laura Bush hit a Corvair sedan driven by Michael Douglas. He was thrown from the car and tragically killed. The police records reported that neither driver was drinking. Laura Bush stated in numerous interviews that she grieved a great deal over that tragedy. She learned from that accident just how short and precious life really is. The former review of BugBehind was critical and erroneous. It made him sound like a real Bush-basher. The book was an excellent read about a common West Texas girl who was chosen to become one of the greatest first lady's of our U.S. history. Her words after the 9-11 tragedy were comforting to a grieving nation. It is one reason so many people admire her. The book was an enjoyable biography.

Talk about the run for President. Life in the White House. The Book end with a look at Laura day on September 11, 2001.
