Rating: Summary: A great read Review: This book was entertaining and made me laugh outloud. It reminds the reader the importance of love and quality time with family and friends. I'd love to take a walk down 1950s Chicago and see it through the eyes of these characters. As a second grade teacher, it gave me a new perspective on how my students might perceive me and their world.
Rating: Summary: Coming of age extraordinare! Review: This is a delightful, but also insightful, story of a young boy's adolescence after the death of his parents. It is a rollicking good time with his extended Irish family in the north side of Chicagoin the 50's, but it is also a heart wrenching story of an orphan, loved by all of his family, but still missing his parents. It is also a remarkably accurate depiction of big city Chicago in the 50's, really a small town cut into little segments. It is written with heart and syle. I thoroughly loved this book!

Rating: Summary: Interesting new read...candid snapshots about family life Review: WOW...this was a great book. It was an easy read and simply delightful with the humorous situations that (working with children/families each day) I can only attest to being true to life. It also captured the sad secrets of families and how difficult childhoods can make us who we are. I simply loved this book and am recommending it to everyone...great for a travel book, it offers enough to keep your attention while still being enjoyable and refeshing. Don't miss it! I would love to see it in a movie!!!
