Summary: Mutation
Review: This book, Mutation, is one of the only well-written mystery books I have ever read. Although I've only read six or seven mystery books so far. This book is captivating because it has a science fiction aspect to it. One of the main characters, Victor, is first portrayed as a rude person; then, later on you find out that he is in fact a better person than you would've thought. A major problem with Victor, however, is that he mutated his own son, VJ, with increased intelligence and hardly any emotions whatsoever. VJ cares about nothing other than sole recognition from his father.
I liked the storylines about the incredibly intelligent children because it seems that that is what is trying to be done today. Another surprising part was that VJ had a secret lab when he was only three years old! A good part of the book is the science information about genetics; which I like because it is one of my interests.
What I'm not so fond of is that VJ has very few emotions at all. Another is that VJ killed a lot of people without any care at all. He seems different from the norm like that. The fact that VJ was skipping class like that disgusts me. Finally I don't like Shanon Carver, an ex-employee of Victor's, because she is stupid and a horrible person. She files a sex-discrimination charge because she doesn't get her job back; even though she hardly ever worked much at all. She even would vandalize Victor's house.
This book, in my mind, was very interesting because the science part of it interests me. Only a few parts aren't good because it isn't pleasant to read about a whole family being murdered, but they seem to make the book better as a whole. I recommend this book to any who like sci-fi or mystery books.

Summary: Mutated kids sparks murders
Review: Mutation is a science fiction mystery. It is a well written and thought out plot consisting of a genetic experiment, a child prodigy, murders, and a secret lab. The main character, Victor, has tunnel vision when it comes to his experiments. His lack of thinking ahead gives him a "guilty yet insane" sort of demeanor. He adds the sense that you know the truth, but don't want to; a very convincing character capable of conveying his thoughts without the reader having to read them. VJ is a hard character to read. . VJ, however, is supposed to be hard to predict. It is his basic personality. He has a very dark and secretive life, and is never one that likes to cuddle with his mom. He has no conscience or sense of right or wrong. VJ is the most surrealistic part of the story; being a child prodigy and all. This book has a very surprise ending that would encourage a sequel. I haven't found one yet if there is one. Anyway, this is an overall good book with a lot of red herrings and some dramatic irony. This is a good weekend read for the science fiction or medical mystery fan.

Summary: Melanie Magdziarz
Review: Mutation, New York Times best seller, written by Robin Cook a medical trainee at Harvard, is a book with plots up to ears and turns and twist to your eyes. Very well written but has far too many plots. I got bored very easily and got mad at the book in several different parts. The plots were supposed to be suspenseful but it was very predictable which made it boring. However well written this book is I do not recommend it to anybody

Summary: Intense Action !
Review: A page turner ! I simply couldn't put it down ! I even found myself reading it under lamposts while walking back from work (evening shift). I just had to find out about the faith of Dr Marissa Blumenthal ! OUTBREAK was my introduction to Mr Cook's work, and I was not disappointed, though I must admit that I figured out mid-through who the bad guys were. Also, I sometimes got confused as to who was who (too many damn doctors !). But the fast-moving plot and the sustaining suspense kept me on the edge of my seat ! And the topic. What an horrifying one it is ! Just writing about it gives me goosebumps ! I encourage anyone to read OUTBREAK. It is a well-deserved best seller !-------M. Boucher

Summary: A good read
Review: A variation on the Frankenstein theme. Dr. Frank nevers imagines his project to create a perfect son would end up in a experiment gone awry. I was impressed by the moral values of the mother. It created the perfect balance with the naivete if the doctor. The story was moderately paced and the dialogue was good. Having read Coma and Brain beforethis book, I was expecting some surprises. Only a few, but still a good read

Summary: Frankenstein (Jr.) Strikes Again
Review: Although a little heavy handed with allusions to Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", Robin Cook's "Mutation" is a good enough read. The plot revolves around genetic manipulation of the unborn: Victor (named just like in the Shelley work) genetically enhances five embryos, one of which becomes his second son (a genius), VJ (for Victor Jr.). By VJ's tenth birthday, several people close to him have mysteriously died from a rare form of liver cancer, and Marsha, his mother, begins to suspect that all is not right. By the time she convinces Victor that their son has, to put it mildly, a personality disorder, VJ has begun to conduct his own experiments in genetic research. Cook, as always, includes great biological plot points, and at the least, the book is educational and raises several issues that are as relevant now as when the book was first published several years ago. However, the element of surprise just isn't there, and an attentive reader can spot what's coming a mile away. The end implies that the story isn't over...but isn't as ambiguous as Shelley's "Frankenstein". Or as profound...

Summary: nice book
Review: Dr. Cook is very good, and as always, he has written another beautiful and page-turner book - Mutation. I recommend it to everyone!

Summary: I found a big mistake in this book
Review: Every time I read a book of Robin Cook I hate all kinds of doctors, you don't know what can be true in the field of investigation. But this book has a big mistake, this mistake is that VJ only has 11 years and he made a laboratory by himself, sell drugs, and have a big team working for him and nobody knew it, that can be true only if Dr. Cook change VJ age to 20 years, then everything could be possible and then this book will be a 5 stars book.
Taking that away with the explanation of the ADN formulas that I didn't understood, this is an easy book to read it will keep you interested in the story.

Summary: Very entertaining
Review: From prologue this book was nonstop excitement and thrills. This book tells of doctor's dream of a perfect son and his attempt to make him using genetic manipulation is definitely one of Cook's best. It is very entertaining, thrilling and even scary. Any Cook fan should read it.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not one of his best
Review: Hmmm, definitely not one of Robin Cook's best. By the end of the 2nd chapter, I was extremely disappointed in Cook's level of writing in this book. "Oh, and by the way, neither of them knew they had less than bla time to live." How boring! How cliche! By the middle of the book, I was simply reading because I wanted to finish. I have read many of Cook's other books, and they are much better compared to this particular one. Quite frankly, the Frankenstein story is just not for me.
