Summary: More Elmore
Review: I COULD WRITE THE SAME REVIEW OF ANY OF LEONARD'S BOOKS. THEY ARE WONDERFUL IN DIALOGUE AND RICH IN COLORFUL CHARACTERS. THE FULL MEASURE OF AN AUTHOR IS NOT IF HE CAN APPEAL TO NEW YORK CRITICS, BUT WHETHER HE CAN TOUCH AN AUDIENCE OF INDIANA FACTORY WORKERS AND SPARK A RECURRING INTEREST. HE HAS DONE BOTH. THE FACTORY PEOPLE I WORK WITH AND CHECK OUT BOOKS FOR, REQUEST HIS BOOKS FROM THE AUDIO LIBRARY MORE THAN ANY OTHER AUTHOR.
THEY ARE FUNNY, REVEALING AND RICH IN CHARACTER AND TEXTURE. WE HOPE FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF LEONARD AND HIS ANTICS.

Summary: Boring boring boring!
Review: I couldn't bring myself to finish this book. I just stopped reading it and put it away. Then I rented the video because when I saw John Travolta and Danny Devito played in it, I thought maybe the movie would be better than the book. Well I was disappointed again. I fell asleep watching it. It's the first time I read a book by this author. I hope this is not considered is best yet!

Summary: Plodding and Predictable
Review: I did see the movie before I read this book and kinda liked it. I cannot say the same for the book. I just wasn't very good or interesting. I couldn't wait until I was finished with it so that I could move onto something with a greater literary value. Watch the movie, but skip the book!

Summary: First and probably the last Leonard I'll read
Review: I had been meaning to read Elmore Leonard for years now, ever since seeing movies like Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. I knew Quentin Tarantino was a big fan and was heavily influenced by Leonard. So, after much surfing and emailing, I determined Get Shorty was likely the best novel to start with. It was pretty good, but a really light read. What makes Leonard's writing shine is the dialogue; you've heard the overused "dialogue crackles" rave? Well Leonard really delivers...this is why his novels make such successful movies; they read like them. This is a novel perfect for those who typically prefer movies over novels. I prefer the depth of Michael Connelly or Greg Iles or Dennis Lehane myself. But this is an entertaining story and certainly holds your attention, and before you know it, it's over. Just like a good movie.

Summary: A solid piece of work
Review: I haven't read too much of Leonard's work, but beyond the beginning which is confusing at first, I did enjoy the suspense of how everything was going to work out.

Summary: FANTASTIC! ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ!
Review: I loved the movie, but the book was even better. I am a fan of crime novels but this one was different than most. It was really funny! This was a great book and I would recommend it to anyone, even if you're not a fan of the genre

Summary: Why the fuss about Leonard?
Review: I read this after hearing a lot about Leonard, and how funny and clever his books supposedly are. Well, I tried this one and another (not sure what the other is called anymore, think it's Glitz) and did not find much that was funny or clever in them. In fact, I found both books rather dull and contrived, and think I am probably being generous by giving it two stars. Maybe I am just not a Leonard type of person.

Summary: A great novel!!!!!
Review: I saw the movie before I read the book. I was intrigued by the movie to read the book.

The theme behind Get Shory is a common theme present in most of Elmore Leonard's books (I have read most of Elmore Leonard's books). The theme is to trust no one... But the theme does not detract anything from this book, rather makes the reader curious about what is going to happen next.

The story behind Get Shorty is believable, not far-fetched, and engaging including Chili Palmer's character.

This book is a great read. I highly recommend this book to every reader.

Summary: BBBBBBOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
Review: I too am puzzled by the reviews this book got. All of the blurbs on the book say fast moving, lively, and funny. This book was SLOW, BORING and NOT AMUSING. I kept reading and thinking, well somethings going to happen soon, but to my amazement I kept turning the pages and guess what, NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENS. This really is perhaps the most BORING book I ever read.

Summary: A Very Good Book.
Review: I've read 3 Elmore Leonard books. Out of Sight,Rum Punch, and this. Every novel by Elmore Leonard i've read i'd seen the movie. This is no exception. I loved the movie so I thought,
why not read the book. The book is a little bit different from the movie but not incredibly so. The story is about Chili Palmer. Chili is a loan shark from Miami who goes to LA to collect a debt from a guy who scammed an airline and also from campy horror movie producer Harry Zimm. While talking to Harry,
Chili pitches a script idea (which Harry loves) and begins to get the low down on the movie business. Now Chili is trying to be a movie producer, and trying to convince superstar Michael Weir to be in a movie Harry wants to make called "Mr.Lovejoy".
Weir is also the ex-husband of the "love interest" of Chili,
Karen Flores.Ex-horror movie scream queen. Overall the book can drag at times and I don't really like the character of Bo Catlett but other than that this is a good book.B+.
