Rating: Summary: Isaac Asimov in his final triumph! Review: As the Galactic Empire continues to crack and crumble around an aging Hari Seldon, who races to finish Psychohistory in time to save humanity, you feel that Asimov was describing his own life partly as he felt himself fading away. The sadness of it is real and pure. Three cheers for Asimov!
Rating: Summary: Great book a sort of biography of Hari Seldon. Review: Someone said of "Holy Fire" "It is not his best, but it is his most human" I think that works here. The second most human would be "End of Eternity", but the characterization is probably better here.(Although I do prefer "End of Eternity") In fact I think this is one of the most touching Asimov books. Would human nature be the same in 20,000 yrs? Well perhaps not, but humans were humans 20,000 yrs. ago & you can't say for sure they won't still be humans 20,000 yrs. from now. One thing that is interesting is that it seemed to have an "end of the road" feel. Okay maybe hearing this was his last novel gave me that idea, but I think it's there anyway. One thing that depresses me about this book ,now that I think of it, is Seldon puts all this effort into psychohistory & they just scrap the whole thing for Galaxia. Oh well I guess it couldn't have happened without Foundation. One last thing this is sadder than normal for Asimov, but it is still downright cheery compared to much of the science fiction produced nowadays. I am not saying sad stuff is bad, I am just calling it as I sees it.
Rating: Summary: Good plot, good storyline, good theme, unique format, ****! Review: Forwaard the Foundation takes on where Prelude to Foundation left off. The book takes place 10 years afterwards, and Hari has accomplished practically nothing in his practice of 'psychohistory.' His entire life has been ruined by the project and, without giving away the surprize ending of the previous book, "Hummin" has decided to exile himself! -Isaac Asimov did a great job at blending the 4 parts of the story together, although sometimes I found it difficult to differentiate between a flashback and a present scene.-A wide and interesting selection of characters that differ greatly from one another. -Poor physical description of characters. -Romance and sadness, but little humour. -Can be somewhat depressing. -It kind of seems like a historical version of a true story set in the distant future in a fictitious world--which, in fiction, would be a historical true story of the past. -Good job of blending ending to make as a prelude to the original Foundation novel-This book is not too ahead of itself, even though it takes place in about 25 000 years from now.
Rating: Summary: Exciting! Captivating! Prevelent and Pertinent to the Future Review: I thought that Forward to Foundation was a very exciting book. It went into great detaila about what came of society in the far future. I enjoyed reading this adventurous and captivating novel. It was one of Isaac Asimov's most impressive creations. Truling an outstanding masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Humanity remains the same, but still greate. Review: Asimov's "Forward the Foundations" is one of the best books I 've read this year and remains as one of my best choises. The ideas are original and the plot... No words for that one. It has almost everything any science fiction fan could ask. The only thing that I really didn't like was the state of humanity. Dammit, despite that they survived long enough to to a Galactic Empire, they remain with the same behavior. But the story shadows that little error.
Rating: Summary: Totally A book that will knock your socks off Review: Asimov goes beyond a genius in this novel. He explains all that is wanted to be knowen. The way he can tie the events between his PRELUDE TO FOUNDATION and FOUNDATION books is amazing. It simply boggles the human mind. The way he gives his characters a real life persona. The connection that can be made between his characters and the role that they play. The plot twists and the ending in which really touches and reaches out to you. It makes his whole series complete. Bringing down the GOD like persona that he gave to Seldon in his other books. A must read!
Rating: Summary: This is the kind of story that defies the silver screen..... Review: To the utter frustration of HOLLYWOOD,astory was created that surpasses the mongral mind. Mr. Asimov has interwoven a plot that is mind-alteringly brilliant. Don't be supprised if you end up reading this more than twice!
Rating: Summary: Truly epitomizes the series Review: I loved this book, but, strangely enough, I followed the series in the order recommended (PRELUDE,FURTHER,FOUNDATION,FOUNDATION & EMPIRE,2ND FOUNDATION, EDGE,and EARTH). As is such, a lot of the mysteries that would have been revealed had a read the original trilogy before reading the preludes were revealed to me so that when I read FOUNDATION, I already knew Terminus was a set up and the Encyclopedists were cover ups. Probably the ONLY set back for this book, FURTHER was a thrilling look into the life of the legend and read much like an autobiography.
Rating: Summary: Foward The Foundation: A Modern Masterpiece Review: Forward The Foundation: was by far the best book of the Foundation Series. It enters a depth of intellect unseen in the previous wonderful novel, and is only surpassed by the last of the Original Series, Second Foundation. This novel deals with the creation of life in psychohistory... and the struggles along the road. From triumpf in theory, to disaster in family, Hari Seldon battles all... and it is proven that he was human. Dr. Isaac Asimov (RIP) achieved his goal (of bringing Hari Seldon back from the "god like" spotlight to human form) extremely well! Those persons who seek to "get a feel for" things, and psychohistory IS one of those things, Foward The Foundation does just that: delivers an intuition to the open minded, as well as the open hearted. I do not believe that Isaac Asimov had a more than general theory of psychohistory, and thus he had to use mystisim to describe this beautiful concept. Forward the Foundation, has left me with one simple question (seemingly) eternally within me: "How would psychohistory have dealt with this?" I hope, I sincerely hope, that I am not alone in this quest for knowledge and intellect Dr. Asimov believed to be so prudent in our species' survival... read this novel, and please send me your thoughts... I welcome them! I highly recommend this, and all other Foundation novel before Foundation's Edge, to all reading enthusiasts alike! Sincerely, "Raych Seldon" P.S.: I have created my own personal "Star's End." A place where intellect, the quest for knowledge, is highly welcomed (if not encouraged).
Rating: Summary: A moving finale to the Foundation series Review: This book is certainly not the best of Asimov's illustrious career, but its story neatly and elegantly concludes his hallmark Foundation series. In the previous books, (almost all of which take place after this one) Hari Seldon is portrayed as a legend and hero, but Forward the Foundation makes him human, as he takes in all the events around him in an attempt to save the galaxy from thousands of years of barbarism. The entries from the "Encyclopedia Galactica" add a very sobering touch, as they tell the readers that Seldon's dreams were fulfilled (though not in the way he expected), and the galaxy was saved. In the same way, we can expect that Isaac Asimov's brilliance will be remembered forever, even as the Spacers take to the stars, and Earth's inhabitants return to the womb of their world
