Summary: Not quite to the Max
Review: This may be a lacklustre effort from Leonard, but lacklustre from him is damn good for anyone else. It might be the surreal elements in this one, which don't play out quite so well, and also Bob himself is not a very rounded character despite being in the title. It's not a bad book by any means, but if you're looking for a Leonard to book to start off with, choose The Switch or Swag. This is better enjoyed once you know the master's style. Recommended, but not his best.

Summary: A judge get's his day?
Review: This novel is simply entertaining. A "by the book "judge has a attempt on his life and in the wake a spectrum of plot twists happen. But as usual Elmore Leonard has seduced the reader with his incredibly four dimensional characters who really make the pages turn without the great deal of preachiness(is that a word?!) that goes on in other novels.

Summary: Irreverent, unexpected, and entertaining
Review: This was a departure from what I normally read, and I liked it in spite of myself. The characters and plotting were completely off the wall, and even when I didn't like how something turned out, I respected Leonard for throwing me off balance as a reader.

Summary: Leonard's characters bring real Floridians to life.
Review: This was the first of about 10 Elmore Leonard books I've read. I was born and raised in South Florida but left in the late 70's. I was delighted by how real Leonard's characters were. Maximum Bob read like a visit with people I knew as a kid coming of age in the beach towns and back waters of the Sunshine State. Believe me, gator poacher Dicky Campau and ex-con Elvin Crowe are both alive and well in Florida. And they're just as nuts and as big a couple of losers as Leonard claims. For me, Maximum Bob was like a travel journal home.

Summary: Maximum Blah
Review: Why does everyone think this guy is so good. Please tell me this is his worst book. Maybe my expectations were real high but the story wasn't all that great and the thing this guy is known for, his dialogue, was run of the mill. Oh well.
