Summary: BOOOOOOOOOO!
Review: Sorry Leon but your novel was awful! I am utterly disappointed. I actually had to check out the review's to make sure I didn't complain about it already.

Everything was terrible. The characters, plot, etc. I couldn't WAIT to finish it so I could get onto something else.

Uris fans will probably be curious and want buy it anyway - DON'T! Try to borrow it or something.

Summary: I couldn't believe what I was reading
Review: Even people who are in complete agreement with Uris' political beliefs could not enjoy this book. The characters are thin and unbelievable and the dialog is ridiculous. I would venture to say that most teenagers don't opine about their fathers' political beliefs: "Thank God for men like our Dad."

Because much of the story takes place eight years into the future, the characters express retrospective opinions of President Clinton. These are ridiculous. The Clintons are regarded as wonderful people who were unfairly crushed by their enemies and that noone would want public office after the ordeal that they went through. Uris had enough time before publication to realize that the Clintons are as flawed as anyone, their enemies failed, and that people are still lining up to govern. Uris believes that President Clinton is Joan of Arc. Be prepared to swallow that opinion over and over if you make the mistake of reading this book.

Summary: What a relief
Review: What a relief to read the other reviews. I thought I was loosing my mind wondering if this was the same Leon Uris I have loved in the past.

Summary: LEON - ARE YOU SURE YOU WROTE THIS?
Review: As a serious reader, I want to be entertained, as well as to perhaps learn something that I didn't know before. Uris's previous books certainly fit this criteria, however, his latest attempt, A GOD IN RUINS, did neither! In fact, I ended up trashing the book, about half-way and decided that my money was unwisely spent. Unlike his other novels, his characters were weak and his plot was non-existent, thus the book was neither entertaining nor informative. My observation is that the sole purpose of the novel was to promote Mr. Uris's political beliefs - which I do not share!

Summary: A God In Ruins
Review: I have been reading Leon Uris since, in high school in the 1950s, I picked up Battle Cry. Maybe the writer owes his New York friends so much that he put out this piece of trite pap. The NRA must have really pissed him off! The book is basically about one shallow character's fight for gun control in America. Characters are written in broad generalizations that show Uris spent his time in Ireland researching his books and decided that he can throw off his own country in stereotypes drawn from the shallow New York literary scene. I was lucky. I bought the paperback book on sale. I would be most disappointed had I paid full price.

Summary: Uris is Ruined for Me
Review: I have read many of Leon Uris' books in the past and was very excited to find he had written a new one. Boy, have I been disappointed. This book is nowhere near as good as Armageddon or the Haj and does not even seem to be written by the same man. The whole book seemed like an avenue for Uris to showcase his political ideals and I didn't even like the characters. Too bad--I know he is capable of better.

Summary: What happened to the plot?
Review: Leon Uris usually weaves trmendous epic novels. This is not one of them. The story baically leads up to the presedential election of 20008 and spends most of ts time onthe main characters' backgrounds rather than developing a plot to get excited about.

Summary: The Best Book I've read in ten years!
Review: I am a dedicated reader of fiction and a would-be author. I found "A God In Ruins" to be both inspirational and emotional. Uris has a message and he conveys it extraordinarily well. His character development is to die for. A book for modern America, timely.

Summary: Not Worthy of Uris
Review: As one who believes in finishing what you've started, it is extremely rare for me to walk out of a movie prior to the ending, or, in terms of this book, pull the marker prior to the last page. I found Uris demeaning to conservatives, especially, and his 'satire' on certain organizations, beliefs, and laws, was pure liberal trips. ... No more Uris for me.

Summary: Uris lets us down
Review: I'm a fan of Mr. Uris and when I saw this book in an airport before a long flight, I was excited. That excitement didn't last long. DO NOT BUY this book! It is shallow and was apparently rapidly written and edited. There are some glaring errors in the book and the main characters are stereotypical. I don't mind an author with an agenda - I love Gore Vidal, but don't agree with him on much politically - but there has to be something of value in the writing. Nothing here!
