Rating: Summary: Really absorbing Review: To assemble his squad, Merec has them compete against each other. Those who live move on to the next round of cuts. Those who survive all together make the team. However, this is not a sports group. This is a terrorist group headed by a player-coach, who is at the top of the most wanted CIA list. The next step begins when the ingenious Merec and his men take over the Willowridge Rest Home, killing most of the residents. One of the few left alive is Sarah Shepherd, a person struggling to recover from the shocking death of her beloved spouse Matthew in a car accident. Merec enjoys the resistance of the fiftyish woman who has the guts to get into his face. He turns her into his media darling that will propel his real plan into action. However, the invincible Merec now has an Achilles heel by falling in love with his hostage. He wants her safe and free even from him. She prefers to stay with her host, leaving his perfect game in jeopardy. KILL ME FIRST is an adrenaline stomping psychological thriller that never gives the reader a moment to catch their breath. The story line moves through the pages so fast the audience will not know where the time went as they complete the novel in one sitting. The characters steal the novel. The evil Merec seems human because of Sarah. The transformations of Sarah through the stages of grief and being a hostage are done with dexterity and intelligence. The support cast provides insight into the minds of the lead players. Kate Morgenroth enters the sub- genre with an entertaining morality chiller that will obtain many fans for this new author. Rating: Summary: Too much disbelief to suspend Review: Two examples: "Trexler got into CIA headquarters on the strength of his federal ID." And later, two law enforcement officers talking-- "You know the saying." "What?" "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades." "No, I hadn't heard that." [Anyone need to read further?]
Rating: Summary: Haunting Philosophical Investigation Review: Ugh! What a trite book! It was literally like reading a script. Evidently Morgenroth had intended to write a novel that would receive offers from every film producer in Hollywood. Yes, there are some exciting and intense moments when Merec is shown just how evil he could be, but not enough to make it exciting or likeable. There isn't a spark of originality in the plot. There's no literary merit. None. May I suggest a dark novel that is thought provoking and intense? Try Criminals by Margot Livesey. I highly advice you to skip this one -- unless you want to read a script disguised as a novel.

Rating: Summary: A thought-provoking thriller! Review: Unlike typical thrillers that pull the reader along quickly and leave the mind just as quickly, Kill Me First will linger in your thoughts long after the last page has been turned. Author Kate Morgenroth has crafted an intriguing tale of humanity which questions our own motivations and morals. This isn't just a thriller; it's a thriller which challenges us to think. I look forward to reading more from Kate Morgenroth.
