Summary: Essential reading for the guys as well.
Review: Not enough guys read "Girl" material. I'm a fan of many womens glossies and can honestly say I learn more about relationships in Cosmo than the so-called "Macho" titles like Stuff and FHM. "How To Meet Cute Boys" took me into this world, without the fluff. An in-depth and highly enjoyable romp through LA's entertainement social scene and the unique mind of Benjamina Franklin (who I now have an imaginary crush on.) Remarkably accurate scenarios that make you wonder how much author Deanna Kizis has experienced in her life. My new favorite subway material...of course hidden w/i the newest issue of Maxim.

Review: the one thing i'm wondering why the author didn't cover was benjamina's emotional/mental connection with her cute, young lover, max. sure, they hang out and have sex and give each other presents, but besides shallow pillowtalk, there are no scenes of where the two of them share true emotional intimacy. there are no scenes that show that there is a genuine closeness to them. the kind that makes you gradually fall in love with someone. all you read about is benjamina quickly falling in love with him - it's more like infatuation - and max spotting her neediness and quickly running the other way.

oh, wait, this is chick lit. i'm sorry.

that being said, the narrator is extremely neurotic and needy and pretty much latches onto max because she's desperate for a boyfriend and her younger sister's getting married. she sees max as perfect husband material since he's cute, has his own business, and a nice place.

how many books out there are about women who work some glamourous magazine job who are obssessed with shopping and finding a husband? cash in now, honey. can this awful trend/bandwagon in publishing die? please?

the author tries to appeal to the more indie/hipster woman crowd by dropping bandnames and going to rock shows at various silverlake locales, but fails miserably. she's really not all that cool. it's the neurosis and neediness that makes it so.

her writing's clunky and elementary, and it's way obvious that her position at elle got this book published in the first place.

well, the illustrations and quizzes are cute. if you're one of those girls who are obsessed with shopping and finding a husband, well, you've got another fluffy read. if you're one of those girls who would like something with a lot more substance, you know you'll be looking elsewhere.

Summary: That's All?!?
Review: Umm...did they forget to print the last few pages or something? Good book, but a horrible ending. It seems that those several blank pages at the end of the book must have been meant to have a proper ending printed on them.
